Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone can give me any advice. I have a 2 year old and we have the chance to move abroad for a year or two. We would like to come home in time for him to start primary school in the UK.i understand school applications have to be in a year before. Is there a way to do this from abroad?

If you are Forces, diplomatic service or other qualifying government employee then you have the right to apply from abroad on the strength of your future address, but the LA may require proof you will be there, such as posting order or letter from CO or Head of Mission.

If not, then you can still apply, but it is likely that the council will refuse to process it until you can supply adequate proof that you you will be moving to the area and what your address will be.

Assuming England, the applications window usually opens in the autumn the year before admission, with it closing mid-January - for the next round, the national deadline day is 15 Jan 2023 (national offers day is 17 April)
