Had my sofa and carpets cleaned today, sofa is much better, but the carpets look worse 😬. The stairs look black on the edges of my neutral carpet. I know that part was cleaned and it was a bit dirty, but now it looks like it all needs replacing. I have had them cleaned in the past, but the stairs not for a good while. Is it tike for a new carpet ?

They should look better once they've dried properly.

They'll be better once they're fully dry, but the edges will not come up as well as the main part of the carpet, for several reasons.

if you feel it isn't a good job, don't hesitate to ask him to come back & see if there's a remedy, but really listen to what he says.

Yes I've recently had this with stairs.

You could ask the cleaning company to come back to look once they're fully dry if you're not happy.

Three years ago when my elderly dog was in his final days, he became incontinent. He weed and pood on the rug by his bed through absolutely no fault of his own. The rug was 170 x 120cm and the perfect colour for the room, so after he died I paid £75 to have the rug professionally cleaned. It took ages, but afterwards the rug absolutely STANK of wee and poo. We left it outside to dry fully and it made no difference. The smell was intolerable. We binned the rug and bought a new one in a different shade of the same colour for... you guessed it. £75.

Just responding to the first paragraph of this post, it’s normal for carpet cleaners to tell you to let them know how it looks when it’s dried. I get them in once or twice a year (I have many children and pets), and they usually say once the carpets wet it’s hard for them to tell if the marks are out, so to let them know if it needs going over again
