Have I fucked up son’s school place?

I’ve only just noticed that the deadline for accepting son’s school place ( Reception) was the 3rd May!
Will he lose the place? Have I majorly fucked up here? Thanks

Have you tried accepting it now? Is it jot just click a link?

TeenPlusCat · 15/05/2022 21:43

Not an expert but follow threads on here. Should be fine. They can't withdraw the place without making good effort to contact you. Phone on Monday and follow up with email, and/or accept on the electronic system.

greenleaf5 · 15/05/2022 21:43

I can’t see anywhere to click. I’ve looked all over the site and it’s not obvious. Oh man!

It may have been awarded to a child on the waiting list. But there might not be a waiting list. I'd be online right now...

Give admissions a ring. You're not the first to do this and you won't be the last.

greenleaf5 · 15/05/2022 21:53

Thanks for your replies. I’ll call them
first thing tomorrow morning. I’m so cross with myself!

Are you positive you have to actively accept? With my LA we accept by default. You have to reject the place rather than accept it.

LilacPoppy · 15/05/2022 21:57

If they had a waiting list then most likely yes. It should be opt out though as not everyone scrolls to the bit at the bottom.

MarvellousMay · 15/05/2022 21:58

We got a message with a link to accept, are you sure it wasn’t embedded in the email?

greenleaf5 · 15/05/2022 22:13

@MarvellousMay it says ‘ you should
accept the place online’ but when I click the link there’s nothing there. Fuck. I’m so stressed. It’s oversubscribed too.

They should have sent at least one reminder before re offering.

7869hf89ywf · 15/05/2022 22:42

In our LA you don't need to accept if it was your top choice i.e. 1st preference There wouldn't have been a place for you to tick accept as they assume that's your choice.

Yes, I’ve just checked and my email says

“if we do not hear from you, we will continue to contact you for a response”

WaterBottle123 · 15/05/2022 22:43

Don't panic, they'd have emailed it withdrawing the place..

fireandpaint · 15/05/2022 22:45

If there is no ink I'm sure you accept the place by default. Where are you? Where I am you don't have to actively accept it, sounds like it's the same for you.

ThirtyCharacterUsernamesOnly30 · 15/05/2022 23:13

Not sure where you are but in my experience of London & Surrey, you do have to actually accept the place to get it. I've never forgot to accept it though, so maybe it will be okay? I'd call the council first thing tomorrow and ask.

greenleaf5 · 16/05/2022 21:16

It’s all sorted! Thank god. Thanks so much to you all for your advice. The woman I spoke to was very understanding thankfully.

Great. Now remember in 7 years time when your secondary place comes through. Smile

She's not going to forget!

Some other poor sod will though.
