SNOWDONIA

Booked today, a little solo trip all for ME!! I shall be packing up the hiking boots and the bike and off I go in July. I am hoping to find a decent FLAT cycling route because I hate cycling up hills... and also one or two decent pubs or restaurants perhaps? Obviously lots of walking too. This is my first solo trip since 2020 I am SO EXCITED!!! Are there any Welsh people on here who can give me tips on your lovely home?

Look at www.dioni.co.uk/best-family-cycling-routes-in-snowdonia/ for ideas

Where in Snowdonia are you going?

Dimenw · 15/05/2022 17:01

Good luck finding a flat cycling route. Although I suppose you could cycle round lake Bala. There's a pub at the South end of it which does glorious steak and chips, I'll have to look up the name for you. Ooh also from Dolgellau down along the estuary. Where are you staying?

Peradventure55 · 15/05/2022 17:05

You are going to Snowdonia on a cycling holiday, but hate cycling up hills, what could possibly go wrong. Seriously, Anglesey is only over the bridge and would be a better bet for cycling.

It's called Yr Eagles it's at Llanuwchllyn.

NotMeNoNo · 15/05/2022 17:06

as Dimenw said, Mawddach trail from Dolgellau. Former railway so good and flat.

FuckingNoise · 15/05/2022 17:30

It's more of a hiking holiday, I just thought I'd take the bike with me if there are a couple of pleasant trails. I'm staying in Trawsfynydd

Cycling from Traws towards Caernarfon is pretty flat. Once you get to Bryncir you have a cycle path which will take you to Bangor.

There are no decent pubs on the cycle path, but you can get a lovely meal in the Black Boy in Caernarfon.

there is also the Fron Goch garden centre just before you get into town. Very popular with locals. Oh and you could take a detour off the cycle path and visit the Tyn Llan pub in Llandwrog. Run by the community.

I love it love it love it and I'm quite jealous. So many different things to see in such a small area, wonderful trails in any direction - mountains (sorry!) coast, castles, bodnant gardens, great fish and chips but watch out for seagulls. Anglesey is beautiful, and a totally different character.

StageRage · 15/05/2022 18:02

How exciting OP, it sounds fab!

Lonelycrab · 15/05/2022 18:15

For an easy hike this one is stunning and nearby. Waterfalls, otters and rainforest!
Not far..

Cobrakaikarate · 15/05/2022 18:30

Ooo...watching this, planning on similar

Lonelycrab · 15/05/2022 19:08

For cycling the Coed y Brennan green trail looks pretty easy. Really nice forest there and just down the road, OP.

NotMeNoNo · 16/05/2022 08:30

We stay in the cabins at Trawsfynnydd quite a lot. The Coed y Brenin bike trails are fun, good cafe and walking too. We also walk around Cadair Idris and the Rhinog mountains. It's a lovely area, enjoy!

FuckingNoise · 18/05/2022 21:51

Can you run / walk around Lake Bala as in is there a path? What's the perimeter?

Dylan's restaurant in Criccieth is amazing, beautiful views over the coast!
