Looking for some advice from wise mumsnetters. Go on a sunshine holiday in a months time and need to shed at least a stone. Is the best way low carb, or intermittent fasting, or any other great methods? I will be upping my exercise regime too, joe wicks every am and a brisk walk each evening plus running around with the kids, but need to sort the diet bit out. Any tried and tested advice?

The fast800. You’ll easily lose a stone in a month.
combination of low cal, low carb and intermittent fasting.

Came here to say fasting also!

I have never dieted before but I can’t shift weight as easy now. Fasting sounds like a good solution although it feels like a big task. Will look into this and fingers crossed for success!!

Why do people (especially women) feel they have to lose X amount of weight for a holiday?

I TOTALLY understand that we all want to look and feel good in our holiday clothes and have the freedom to enjoy food and alcohol if we desire whilst on holiday... however it's unlikely anyone but you will notice you weigh a few pounds less than before you went. Surely it's more important to work on body confidence than look for methods of fast weight loss?

If you want to tone up, or lose a bit of weight (assuming you 'need' to), or exercise for health, that's all great and very beneficial. But putting yourself under huge pressure to starve or go to extreme lengths to shed a few pounds could potentially be detrimental (especially if you don't end up losing the weight you hoped to and end up going on holiday at your previous weight anyway).

Have a lovely holiday, whatever your size or shape!

The Fast800 by Michael Mosley.

Have a look at the Facebook page Fast 800 Recipe & Support. It’s the best page for this plan that I’ve found - a good balance of the plan rules vs real life situations where you could possibly go off the plan I.e special occasions (some Fast800 groups can be militant).

Calorie counting has always worked for me. Download My Fitness Pal and log everything you eat - everything! It will ask for your weight, height, age, exercise level, target etc and come up with a recommended calorie allowance. If you don’t count your exercise calories on top (don’t eat then back) you will lose.

A stone is a bit drastic in a month. You don’t want to make your allowance so low that you fell frustrated and end up blowing the diet and bingeing. Keep it manageable and you’ll lose a good half stone and feel much better.

Don't crash diet as it completely fucks your metabolism up for life.

Calorie count using a sensible app, and try to lower your carb intake/sugar intake/do more exercise.

It's better to start something that you can carry on with during your holiday rather than crash diet for a month to put it all back on in 7 days........
