It's my Mum's birthday next week. We're getting her a magazine subscription which she knows about and I've said we won't be able to give her much else. I always get flowers. Any ideas for a small gift to open, say up to £5. She's trying to lose weight so want to avoid food/drink and I've given her lots of handcreams/toiletries over the years.

A plant. ( just bought one in local garden centre for £4 and a bargain pot holder for 50p in a charity shop)
Selection of seeds to plant, box of wild flower seeds to scatter.
Donate £5 to Mary’s Meals in her name. That feeds a child at school for a term, somewhere in the world.
A book.
Plant aTree onetreeplanted.org £5 will plant 5 trees.
Socks.

A plant is a great option, m&s have cute succulents in Perry pig and other festive pots for around £6

Seeing as the OP's mum's birthday was May she's probably sorted by now.
