How much butter?

HalloHello · 11/05/2022 09:46

We love butter in this house. Cannot deal with any butter substitutes, or spreads etc although. We are trying to be sensible with our food shopping spends just now and butter is costing a lot. We bought a 250g block of butter on Monday and it's almost 75% gone already!!!! Is that too much better for a family of 4 who all eat sandwiches and toast every day?!?

No idea. We got through less than one a week when it was just the four of us , but when my stepkids ( teens) were living with us it could be gone in a couple days. I use about one every three weeks now it's just me and my daughter.

It sounds a huge amount to me but then a tub of spread usually goes out of date well before it's finished by me! I'm astounded by how much some people use though - i went away for a long weekend with a few friends and we had to buy a 2nd packet of butter before the weekend was up. I can only assume they sliced it rather than spread it on toast!

That seems a lot to me as an initial reaction, but we rarely eat toast or sandwiches so only use it for cooking and there are only two of us. Working it out though, three quarters of a block for four people over three days works out at 15-16g per person per day, which doesn’t seem excessive at all.
