Mother in law not able to get through to Sky to cancel her contract. Any suggestion?

My poor mother in law has been trying to ring Sky for weeks but she keeps getting a message saying they have training and wait times are anything between 30 and 60 minutes. The recorded message says the usual ‘go online’ but she hasn’t got internet access (they really shouldn’t assume everyone has but that’s another thread!). I can’t find an email address for them

As you have come online to ask this for her surely you can go online and have her at the end of a call to "go online with Sky" for her?

IncompleteSenten · 10/05/2022 11:46

Do it for her on your internet?

TeapotCollection · 10/05/2022 11:48

We’d have to create an account for her using our email. Not sure if that’s allowed? Anyway seems pointless seeing as she’s cancelling completely

Go online, create the account with your email with your MILs permission surely and cancel the contract.

Ring this number it is the retentions department for sky. I was on hold for ages last week and finally got through to someone and they give me this number to speak to. I

It's not pointless.
The point of it is to enable your mil to cancel the contract.

It'll take what? 5 minutes? 10?
Compared to hours and hours on the phone, that is the point. It'll get the job done.

Sirzy · 10/05/2022 12:15

Sky don’t let you cancel online anyway do they? I have always had to phone to reduce my package can only upgrade online

AnotherTroyforHertoBurn · 10/05/2022 12:21

My mother died, my brother (executor) tried to cancel and lost the will to live after thirty minutes, so he gave the job to me, I am retired nothing to do, and all day to do it, so I rang them earlyish about 9.00 am got the same very busy message but just let it burble away in the background it got through in ten minutes.

Texted the group chat, and my sister said that was suspiciously easy are you sure ? So I called them again the next day (another ten minutes) and it had indeed been actioned.

So your MIL needs to commit to waiting and odds are she probably won't be.

SageRosemary · 10/05/2022 12:22

DH had this problem but he wanted to tell them to cancel in the hope of getting a better contract. So, I wrote a letter for him giving cancellation instructions, quoting customer ID details and giving a phone number. They rang him straight away and he negotiated a much better deal.

I got through in 10 minutes yesterday. 0333 759 1018

RubiesandRose · 10/05/2022 12:23

I cancelled recently by emailing them.

You have to give 30/31 days notice and although they may not respond immediately they do count the 30 days down from the date it was received.

She'll just need to give her account details and a contact number.

Sometimes you just need to wait until they answer the phone. Massively annoying but necessary

PrettyMaybug · 10/05/2022 12:31

Come ON. It's as plain as the nose on your face what you need to do. Go online and do it FOR her. Did you even need to ask? Confused

LilacPoppy · 10/05/2022 12:33

I suspect your mum is imaging the waits time being so long so frequently. 30 minutes is normal though she just needs to stick her phone on speaker and get one n with something else.

PrettyMaybug · 10/05/2022 12:34

They will try to talk you (her) out of it, so say she's moving to Fiji or Patagonia or something.

Exactly this. Tell her to make a cuppa, stick the telly on and just leave her phone nearby on speaker till they pick up

this is correct. the number provided by a PP is also correct for the retention dept, sometimes called the sky loyalty team.

TeapotCollection · 10/05/2022 13:08

I’ll try emailing them, thank you to those who have been helpful

You will need to be a named person on her account if you ring on her behalf.
