Best kitchen bin?

FatEaredFuck · 10/05/2022 11:35

Sorry for the dreadfully dull thread, but we need a new kitchen bin, one that will fit under our worktop when the lid is opened if at all possible, or I could find a new space for it if absolutely pushed!

Bonus points if it has a second compartment for carboard, recycling etc? Gin

Brabantia do a stainless steel 40l touch top bin that fits under our work surface just about. they do a 2 compartment recycling one too I think, but they'd both be pretty small.

I like Simplehuman bins. They last well and are well designed

Have to say, despite its eye watering cost, my Joseph Joseph Totem. Bought the original 5 years ago and the hinge broke. Contacted JJ who sent an entire new bin. Couldn't fault the customer service.

It does drop on Amazon occasionally and has been as low as £99

I like brabantia because they last really well and they sell replacement parts meaning it's pretty much going to last you a lifetime. I love when companies do this as I hate planned obsolescence. Our kitchen bin is 15 years old and still going strong. Having said all of that our pedal bin won't fit under a work surface when the lid is open, but I'm not sure if they do options which do.

Simplehuman. Expensive but brilliant.

I recently bought the ikea ones for a tenner each 😀 I had searched high and low and couldn't find a big enough two compartment bin that wasn't less than £130 or so

Definitely Simplehuman, I've had the two compartment recycling one for over 15 years and it is like new. Now I also have an identical one with just one compartment too, so I can collect all my rubbish and recycling in the two of them. Big enough to hold a week's rubbish/recycling and the lid is a good fit so it doesn't smell. Expensive but worth it, I also buy the sized bag to go in the section where I put my landfill rubbish.
