DW & I got a free car back in 2020 from a friend. We did about £300 of work on it. We didn't expect it to last and as we suspected it failed it's 2022 MOT and would have cost a LOT to fix.
We were in a bit of a lull financially and bought a Ford fiesta at 2.5k to tide us over. It's in good condition but we're not expecting it to last more than a couple of years. We're now in the position to save a bit more for a car that will last us a good while so my question is: how much should we be budgeting for a good quality car? I think the max we'll be able to afford is probably £10k. Is that enough? Can we go lower?
