We are visiting oxford at the weekend. Don't know the place at all. Can anyone recommend any nice restaurants in the centre or around cowley rd area ? Anything considered, probably not vegetarian as dp is a confirmed carnivore and not hugely expensive ! Thanks

Victors at the top of west gate shopping centre in the centre of Oxford is delicious 😋

Arbequina - tapas on Cowley Road, fabulous but you need a reservation or you’ll be out of luck
JoJos cafe bar - also Cowley Road
Taste Tibet - nearby Magdalen Road - great for lunch
Also be sure to check out the Covered Market for breakfast/lunch/coffee etc and there’s also dab street food on Gloucester Green on Saturdays.
I also love Pompette in Summertown but that might be a bit out of your way and prices are a bit higher than my other suggestions. Have fun!

*dab street food = fab street food 🤦🏻‍♀️

Quod is a lovely restaurant and they have a very reasonable lunch menu.

Clawdy · 09/05/2022 14:22

Another vote for Quod, we always head there if we visit Oxford.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 09/05/2022 14:27

Brown’s and Branca

YouBoggleMyMind · 09/05/2022 18:58

Yes Quod is yum too!

Gensola · 09/05/2022 19:00

Branca on Walton Street is great, Arbequina is amazing tapas and some delicious meaty options. Pompette is amazing but maybe a bit spenny. Magdalen Arms on Iffley road is also fantastic.

Al shami Lebanese in Jericho. Always go there when I visit. Fantastic food 😋

I popped in to say Quod also! The menu always has a few interesting things on and the bar is very good

There's loads of bars, cafés and restaurants on Cowley Road, you won't be stuck for choice! Café Coco and Kazbar at the bottom of the road before the roundabout are decent, and I always have to visit Chiang Mai Kitchen, down one of the little alleys off the High St.

Letsrunabath · 09/05/2022 19:08

Spiced Roots, waiter was so knowledgeable about the food we let him choose for us.
We also went to a BYOB restaurant

Letsrunabath · 09/05/2022 19:14

Oops we also went to Kesh, it’s BYOB. Brilliant food again and of course very reasonable as you aren’t paying for alcohol.
We we’re really impressed with both these restaurants. But please book in advance as they are popular.

Youkilledmyfatherpreparetodie · 09/05/2022 19:16

Another vote for Quod 😋

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 09/05/2022 19:20

Arbequina is probably the best restaurant in Oxford, but it's not cheap if you have a big appetite! Delicious though. For amazing (meaty) pub food go to the Magdalen Arms or the Chester. Town is mostly boring chain stuff, Quod is nice but not super exciting. If you fancy fish then Cuttlefish on St Clement's is very good.

dubyalass · 09/05/2022 19:23

I miss Oxford! I always recommend La Cucina on St Clements for delicious Italian food and lovely service. But you’ll be spoilt for choice on Cowley Rd.

mogtheexcellent · 09/05/2022 19:27

I went to an indian street food place at the westgate in December. It was lovely.

PermanentTemporary · 09/05/2022 19:31

I have foodie friends who like to eat at No 1 Ship Street. I recently tried Tse Noodles on the same street which is tiny, cheap, cash only and takes no bookings- check the opening times. More likely to get a seat in the evening i think.

I finally have a booking for Arbequina, can't wait. I like Antep Kitchen on the Cowley Road too.

Odessafile · 09/05/2022 23:22

Thanks for some great suggestions.
We were considering Pierre victoire one night which gets good reviews. Bit of a dearth of decent french restaurants up here. Need to do some research but I suspect some places will already be booked up ? Doesn’t seem a shortage of nice places luckily!

HopeForTheBest1 · 10/05/2022 17:07

I love Pierre Victorie and I think it's very reasonable. There's loads of great restaurants in Oxford. The Ashmolean rooftop restaurant is good too.

Aniita · 10/05/2022 17:09

I came on here to recommend Pierre Victoire. I love it. And then a cocktail at the Duke of Cambridge afterwards.

Otherwise, kazbar up Cowley Road is good if you like tapas style food
