Naming a book club for Introverts

Floweringthem · 06/05/2022 15:11

My DD 10 is an introvert, she is starting a little book club with some friends who are like are and needs to name it....

It seems that words associated with being an introvert, are slightly negative but she (rightly so) see's it as a positive.

For example she is not shy, just prefers her own company...

Any ideas on what they could they call their group?

Thank you

@Waxonwaxoff0

and a pp suggested “quirky”!

She only said that because it went with Quietly.

Introversion doesn't mean quiet and thoughtful though.

No but many people use it as a handy shorthand for children who are "quiet and thoughtful" rather than call them shy or another more negative word. You might not have seen it but I have.

I'm honestly fed up with hearing from introverts about how special they are (not that you were saying that, I just hear it a lot on here), but I presume that's not the aim of this club as it's about books and for little kids.

Has no one seen the film "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" - about a secret book club.

Floweringthem · 06/05/2022 17:13

Good grief i wasn't quite expecting this!

Dd labelled herself that, and if you knew her you would never assume she was trying to control the narrative or equally reject people. It was a nice little project they came up with.

I am just trying to get some ideas for her as she is so keen to name it but wish i hadn't bothered now!

And this isn't even on Aibu, OP 😆

CeeceeBloomingdale · 06/05/2022 17:34

Closed cover or closed book. I like the sound of her club

anotherneutralname · 06/05/2022 17:47

This is such a sweet idea! Let’s see:

the quiet chapter
the book whisperers
the page-turners
the reading nook
shelf-conscious
the silent letters

What about 'Just Books' - because the focus is on the reading, not the social aspect.

I think this is a great name!

The Bookworms

Very clever. I like The book whisperers.

Never Judge Book Club
aka
NJABBICBC

PolynesianParadise · 06/05/2022 18:57

Let them come up with the name; it's their club.

JaneJeffer · 06/05/2022 19:20

Enjoy the Silence Book Club

HardRockOwl · 06/05/2022 20:02

@tomatoandherbs I suggested quirky as it flowed with quiet. I meant nothing further by it

You seem rather het up and over invested in this most mundane of topics. Do you not have much else going on in life?

Great list!

The SCB Club (Shelf-conscious Bookworm Club - inspired by above)
Reserved for Reading
The Ssshhy Readers Club
and I liked PP suggestion - Quietly Quirky Bookclub (sounds fun)

But I do agree that although there is nothing negative about being an introvert
there is no need to give it a name based on the characters of the members - why label themselves at all?

So, some more general ideas:-
Buddies and Books (or Book Buddies)
Page-Turning Pals
Reading Friends
Always Reading
The Mind Readers
Once Upon a Bookclub
Great British Read Off
The Bookmarkers
Bookies & Cookies (sorry Mum, catering expectation implied here!)

Personally I like anything with ‘Bookworm’ in (was my nickname as a quiet 10 year old) so what about

Belle’s Bookworms (as in Beauty & Beast)

but maybe Belle is a bit young for them now? So other fictional bookworms - for inspiration:-
Hermione Granger
Mathilda Wormwood
Anne of Green Gables (not exactly an introvert !)
Sara Crewe (Little Princess)

Older still - (for them to grow into):-
Jo March
Elizabeth Bennet
Scout (from To Kill a Mocking bird)
Cassandra (From I Capture the Castle … think I was about 10 when I read this)
Rory Gilmore (from TV series)

Lastly - come up with an acronym based on the names of the founder members?

Whatever they decide on, well done to your DD for starting this, I wish her luck and hope they all enjoy it

Don’t worry OP, it’s mostly just one person (tomato) who’s got stressed about it and posted many times…

I think it’s nice of you to help her gather some ideas

lotusbell · 06/05/2022 20:41

I love the Ssssh we're reading suggestion and I would've loved this at that age. Are nearly 42 year olds allowed?!

anotherneutralname · 06/05/2022 20:41

@MissPattyGilmore love the bookmarkers and the mind readers!

InkyPinkyParlez · 06/05/2022 22:52

It's not right for this but it brings to mind the Diogenes Club from Sherlock Holmes - the club for gentlemen who don't want to chat. I always thought it sounded very restful.
