Words that you still struggle to remember how to spell?

I have an A in English literature and language, and I would say that I have pretty proficient spelling capacity. However* there are some words that have just never stuck, and still have to Google the spelling. Every. Damn. Time.

Anyone else out there care to share their irritatingly spelled words?

I'll start with my most irritating one: diarrhoea. 😁

The thing is, I KNOW definitely has two I's instead of an I then an A - because it's based in the same root as finite. I get that. So why cannot I not apply that when trying to spell it? Why do I spell it definately and then go back and replace the A???

Answer: I am a fool.

It's anything with ambiguous phonetics for me or where a similar letter combination is used in another word. So many of the examples in this thread:

Definitely/definately - because the second i is a schwa sound, plus it's too close to obstinately.

diarrhoea - phonetically just what the fuck is that

Lots of ie / ei / ia ones like hygiene, marriage, weird - because ie can make the sound ee, eye, ee-uh. ei can make the sound eye, ee-uh, ay. ia can make the sound ee-uh as well. It's easy to remember the correct one if the sound is obvious/unique, but if it's not then it's tricky.

Anything where the existence of a double letter or not doesn't affect the sound. Conversely I can't help mentally reading American spellings as though it does matter Grin like "traveling" as "travele-ing"

Wierd/weird, potato/potatoe (same for tomato), calender/calendar and diarrhoea (had to go further up the thread to check it!)
