I'm not sure I could take the crushing disappointment of winning nothing.

Wonder what the answers would be if it were a guaranteed £1000 or a 50/50 for a million? I suspect more people would gamble as £1000 is less life changing.

I'd definitely gamble in that case. £100,000 or a million would be a tough one.

Based on having bills to cover and I could start up my eBay business, I'd have the guaranteed million pounds please.

Oh god yes - I'd do the 50/50 gamble in that situation. I think most people would.

SouthOfFrance · 30/04/2022 14:42

I'm so surprised everyone is saying the million. I think I'd go for the 50/50.

Winning a million would be amazing, but I already have everything I need (just on a smaller scale than a millionaire), so the billion would be better as I could do/buy loads of cool stuff with it.

Am I think only one who thinks I’d go 50/50?!

I’m shocked!

So far, yes!!

I wouldn't because if I didn't win the billion I couldn't live with the regret of not having the million to make the rest of my life comfortable (if not extravagant).

not sure if she makes a difference, maybe when I was younger and full
of potential/ambition I'd have taken the gamble, but now at 53, with a few health issues, I'd rather know I can be comfortable fir rest of my life.

it's why I like the 'set for life' lottery tickets 🤣

Yep, I would. I'd definitely chance the 50/50 in that situation!

I suppose I do in that I play the lottery sometimes and it's MUCH less that 50/50 🤣🤣🤣

Abuildingwith4wallsandtmrinsid · 30/04/2022 14:54

50/50 for me because if I won a billion I could do loads of good things and make an impact.
1 million would just be spent on my own family and wouldn’t really change things for us anyway.

burnoutbabe · 30/04/2022 14:57

the money is too large. £1m would set pretty much everyone up for life. a billion, well what on eartth would anyone do with that, its incomprehensible

A better question is guarahteed £1k or chance £100k - isn't that the 1% competition on ITV some evenings. I'd probably take the £1k but I don't need the money, just prefer something to nothing. at £10k i imagine most would take the £10k rather than chance is as £10k is a bigger sum - a couple of months take home pay for a lot.

If a million pounds wouldn't change anything for you, then you have plenty of scope to 'do good things' anyway.

Guaranteed million easy. Buy a beautiful old rundown house for 500k, spend the other half doing it up. Sell current house, put the equity away for the DC and live a lovely mortgage free life on our (decent) salaries.

I may have given this some thought.

The idea of a billion actually stresses me out, it's too much.

DarleneSnell · 30/04/2022 15:05

Guaranteed million. I'd settle our mortgage and buy a couple of small BTLs which would be rental income initially, but mainly as future starter homes for the DC. The rest I'd give to my parents and siblings.

luciatrope · 30/04/2022 15:09

50/50.

User7493268965 · 30/04/2022 15:13

If I was well off anyway I would gamble the billion but since I'm not I would take the million

badgermushrooms · 30/04/2022 15:39

I'll take the million thanks. Houses are relatively cheap in my (lovely) area and I've recently seen a couple in my 'dream house' range go for about 350k. Then with no mortgage to pay I can go and do an MSc in one of my many niche interests and see if I can fudge a new career out of it. I may have already given it some thought. Anyway it would make enough of a difference in my life that I'd regret it forever if I took the 50/50 and lost.

What would you even do with a billion quid anyway, absent any megalomanaical tendencies?

TooManyPJs · 30/04/2022 15:45

Guaranteed million. No question. That sort of question is often more easily thought about if you ask yourself "if I had a million pounds would I dived it my gambling it all on winning a billion" (or whatever the amount is). The answer is almost certainly no unless it's an amount of money you can afford to lose!

Blossomtoes · 30/04/2022 15:49

Guaranteed million. £100k for each of our adult kids, £100k to make the house immaculate and stay in a hotel while it’s done and £500k to make the next 20 years (realistically the time before we’re ancient) lots of fun.

LadyCatStark · 30/04/2022 15:50

Guaranteed million no question. I’m pretty sure DH would pick the 50:50 option though I’ll have to ask him. He’d lose and I’d resent him forever more 😂.
