Senior school rules/moving home

Ds is in Y7 and at secondary school which he loves.

We are looking to move home and have been browsing. Found a gorgeous home that's ideal for our family size (we have two smaller dc), space, area (park close by) shops etc. We also have plenty of friends in this area and family not far. It definitely has potential to be our forever home.

But It's about a 15-20 minute drive away from our current home and definitely out of the 'catchment area' for ds's senior school. I would hate to take him out of this school because he loves it, has made new friends and is really excelling.

Does anyone know how it works with schools? Will he still be allowed to stay at his school if we moved? Or is it likely the school will ask us to remove him and find another?

Been trying to look online for answers but not coming up with much! TIA

As far as I know, once they're in and started, that's it. I've known people move out of catchment and have not been asked to leave.

In England they an stay.

Your younger ones might not be entitled to a space though.

Thank you both for your replies.

Other dc are babies so won't matter with them Smile

He can definitely stay in the school. You can move as far as you like so long as you take responsibility for getting him there.

No he will stay, my sister moved to a completely different council area and both of hers remained in the schools they were at - it just made commuting a little more difficult (though my sister does work next door to the one school)
