Birthday present ideas for school friends age 5/6

If your child has recently been to a school friends birthday party and they were 5 or 6 what did you give as a present?

I have 6 birthday parties coming up!

I always put thought in to a present and whether I think they will like it and if I have no idea then I give something generic like arts and crafts stuff.

One of my children recently had their 6th birthday party and I was surprised at some of the presents. They received some lovely ones and a few odd ones eg origami set for child age 12+, which made me wonder if most people really think through what they’re giving and whether it will be liked or if it’s a case of pulling an unwanted toy/gift out of the back of the cupboard and thinking ‘that will do’.

I let my child chose generally.

I think Lego is good (if it's age appropriate), colouring books and pens, sticker books, story books, craft kits.

We’ve given board games like Hungry Hippos, Pop up Pirate, Dobble, Ludo etc….

Lego- we've a few sets to keep in the keep in the cupboard and DD chooses one to match the friend. She's 5 and going to a mix of 5th and 6th birthday parties

Small lego sets - Ice cream truck is sometimes reduced to £8 on amazon
Small craft sets e.g. hama bears, jewellery making, fridge magnet painting
Depending on the child, a book about something they're interested in.
