Do I need AirPods?

I’m thinking about upgrading from my current Beats earbuds - wireless but joined by a little wire that sits at the back of your neck. The sound and battery life are good but I find the controls a bit fiddly.
Will moving on to AirPods significantly improve my life? I can’t really tell from reading the Apple website or reviews but people seem to rave about them…

I love mine. But they do have a tendency to fall out if bending over to do the garden or clean the bathroom.

RestingPandaFace · 26/04/2022 20:26

I have pros and they are very comfortable and the sound is good. The noise cancelling is excellent - as good as my big Bose ones.

The do fall out when running but a pair of these has solved the problem

Be careful! People lose them all the time.

I prefer big cans myself.

Not lost mine yet and I’m normally really bad for losing things. Love your username though 🤣

I love mine, much better reception/ connection than my old £20 cheapies. I wear them a lot and I’d find it a right faff to go back to having a wire dangling in the middle of everything again.

I still use wired, scared lose buds while running

Occasionally my air pods have fallen out when running. But the sound cuts out from both as soon as one is removed from your ear, so you are immediately nudged into stopping to look for the dropped bud. You can use the ‘Find my..’ app to find where the charging case is too. So I can’t see how you’d lose them unless you left them lying about without the case?

I love my AirPods

I run and walk in them (and indoor gym stuff too - including burpees etc)

They stay put and are really comfortable

Another Pros wearer here. Expensive but great sound quality. They're £189 on Amazon and at John Lewis (they used to sell at £250).

IloveJudgeJudy · 26/04/2022 20:32

@RestingPandaFace I have those, too! Just a question. Do you find they prevent the actual Pod functions?

user159 · 26/04/2022 20:37

Love mine, use them everyday either whilst working, cleaning or at night when I struggle to sleep and don't want to disturb DH or have a wire around my head!

No they work fine. The cover doesn’t go over the stalky bit.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 26/04/2022 20:45

This is all sounding very exciting - think I’ll go ahead and order some Pros on payday!

Can you sleep in AirPod Pros?
I use earbuds to block out noise and listen to podcasts when I go to bed and my trusty sennheisers are on their last legs.
I don't mind if they are noticeable when you sleep but they have to be comfortable. Some earbuds stick out from the ear too far to be able to sleep on them.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/04/2022 21:07

I love them more than the kids. They have changed my life.

Both of those statements may be an exaggeration but only just.

dangermouseisace · 26/04/2022 21:57

I have airpod pros and I have never worn a pair of earphones so much. I love them, and prefer listening to things on them than other devices due to the sound quality. They are small but I've not lost mine because they go back in the case if not in my ears, and I got a silly-can't miss it case cover. I don't have to take them out to hear people as you can put transparency mode on, which again reduces the risk of losing. I run in mine and haven't had an issue with them being loose/falling out...theyre pretty snug. It took a little bit of time to get used to the snugness but I find even notice them now.

Me too

lunar1 · 27/04/2022 09:31

My son got mine, they are too big for my ears.

TonksInPurple · 27/04/2022 09:34

I love mine I use them all the time I had several pairs ranging from £20 to £50 that all failed in one way or the other.

JustJam4Tea · 27/04/2022 09:47

I got some Anker Soundcore - much cheaper and lots of different size ear buds. They are good. I was relieved I had when I washed a pair and they didn't survive.

Iamblossom · 27/04/2022 09:54

Absolutely love mine. They stay in when running as I always wear a head band (to catch my sweat, bleurgh) and just wear them under that. They stay in fine if just moving normally. Sound quality is amazing.

Iamblossom · 27/04/2022 09:55

Best thing is you can buy funky cases for them...

Do I need AirPods?
DeadButDelicious · 27/04/2022 10:16

I have the AirPods Pro's and I love them. I am a fully paid up apple fan, iPad, iPhone, Apple Watch and I love that they switch seamlessly between the 3 devices. The noise cancelling is great and the sound quality is excellent. The case is a little prone to scuffing so I bought a silicone case for mine to protect it. It glows in the dark Grin

Bought some airpod pros on the back of the glowing reviews here.

Hmm. There's some great things but I'm hugely disappointed generally as they are lacking some really really basic features and the battery life is awful

Pros
Great noise cancelling and none of that blocked ear feeling you can get
I can sleep in them
They feel secure
I like the spatial thing for podcasts and movies
Love the fact they are true wireless

Cons
Sound quality for music is really really awful. Decades behind
Battery life is laughable. I was hoping to use these for work calls which I have back to back most days. I barely got through half a day and had to switch to my trusty Jabra wireless (which last 3 days on a single charge).

Also I use headphones to fall asleep to podcasts -fine but if I wake up in the middle of the night and start a podcast they are already out of battery. My sennheisers would last 3 days too because they disconnect and switch off when you aren't activity listening to anything. The AirPods seem to be fully connected and running down battery if not in the case!

I can't have them connected to 3 devices at once, iPhone, laptop 1 and laptop 2. I have to reconnect everytime which is frustrating and has me miming 'hang on a sec' to Teams callers as I fumble with settings to connect. Back to the Jabras which allow me to do that

No ability to mute and unmute a call from the pods

No ability to change the volume from the pods.

All in all they don't function for my needs. Fine if you only run Apple devices and don't need them for longer than a few hours. I so wanted to love these and I feel a mug given the cost.
Confused

EasterDecorations · 30/04/2022 07:21

Oh, that's a shame. I rarely use mine for a more than a couple of hours at a time so the charging isn't a problem, only have isolated teams meetings (maybe an hour or two a week as I don't WFH so it's not a problem to connect manually to a windows laptop) and would never sleep with earphones in so they work well for me but I can see why those things would be a problem.
