Cherry tomatoes

Where can I buy cherry tomatoes that have flavour and do not cost £3 or £4 for a tray please? They are either the cheaper ones that are underripe and orange or the expensive vine ones that cost £3 upwards for a dozen the size of a marble. thanks. (ps I don't like baby plum as I find their skins tougher)

I like the Marvellous Tomatoes from Lidl. They're affordable as well.

Grow yer own Grin

I'm not just being facetious. They are quite easy to grow, you can get a tumbling/cascade variety and bung them in a hanging basket.

I tend to tailor my veg-growing choices to what is either expensive or difficult to get in the shops.

In the meantime, try little greengrocers and farmers' markets.

We grew some last year, don't need a massive space just some large tubs. Cheap as chips, grow like weeds and bursting with flavour!!

If you are going to grow your own- I recommend sungold and super-sweet varieties.
Really easy to grow- buy 2 or three plants and a grow bag. Put the bag in a sunny sheltered spot.
Cut the bottom out of some bigger pots (3 or 4 ltr size and plant the plants in the pots pushed down into the grow bag. This makes it easier to water.
As they grow, tie the plants to a bean pole. Keep them watered and fed (buy a bottle of tomato feed and follow the instructions).

You should be able to plant them out in a week or two after the last frost, and in about 6 weeks you should get your first tomato 🍅

I agree it hard to find good ones at the moment but its only April so a bit early. I think they are improved immeasurably when halved with the addition of plenty of balsamic vinegar, rock salt and cracked black pepper.
