British Gas smart meter

So iv managed to drop and break my smart meter spoke to British Gas to see about a replacement they said I need to buy one from a hardware store or online
Has anyone done this I don't understand how this will work how will I see my usage and how much electricity and gas I have topped up

Do you mean your in-house display? We recently moved into a house with a smart meter but no IHD and, when we had a meter engineer out for something, I asked about a replacement one but he said they aren’t compatible with other devices only the one they’re supplied with.

There is an app called Loop that you can use apparently (we haven’t as the hope is, once they’ve sorted the issue out with our meter, we’ll get a new one fitted as ours is an old SMETS1 meter!)

Yes the in house meter I even asked to purchase one direct but apparently they don't do that either

No, unfortunately, the only way to get a new IHD is to get a new meter fitted and, unless it’s the old SMETS1 meter or there’s an issue with a SMETS2 meter, that is really difficult to organise!
