City break

We want to book a city break to do in the summer with our children. We are in the south east so not London or Brighton.
can anyone recommend a city to go to where there’s lots around for children to do? Children are 5 and 7 x

Exeter as a base for things nearby, or Manchester perhaps?

Liverpool has lots of free museums and it's also easy to get the train to the beach at Formby or to Chester.

Birmingham: ThinkTank, Legoland Discovery, Cadbury World, National Sealife Centre and Selly Manor Museum. We also used public transport for a day trip to Drayton Manor.

York; go by train, city walls, nice museums,Jorvik Centre,castle ,minster and a real sense of history through the ages.
