Does this look like Chickenpox?

Ds woke this morning with these on his neck. A couple of extras have appeared on his torso but only around 4 by bedtime.
When my older son had it they came thick and fast!
Thoughts? Got such a busy weekend planned :(

Yes, that definitely looks like chickenpox.

Theblacksheepandme · 22/04/2022 22:49

It looks like chicken Pox alright. Does he have a temperature?

Theblacksheepandme · 22/04/2022 22:51

Chickenpox not chicken Pox.

No temp, no cold, nothing. Except most of his nursery getting it just before Easter, I thought we had dodged it as he has been off 2 weeks today!
Thanks for the replies. Is it normal to come out slowly?

That's a snake bite!

😂

My daughters came out slowly like your sons. He may have quite a lot more by morning.

I honestly think it varies. My eldest was plastered, my middle child had less spots, my youngest had about 5, and that was it.

Lindy2 · 22/04/2022 22:58

Have they blistered? It's hard to tell when just at the red spot stage but chickenpox blisters are very distinctive (and a bit gross).

I'd have expected at least some spots to have the classic chickenpox blisters by now if it is chickenpox.

Some people get lots of spots but others only a few. DD had about 5 spots in the evening and about 40 by the next morning. More and more appeared over the next few days. Usually it's torso first and then spreads out down arms and legs.

feministqueen · 22/04/2022 22:58

Possibly but tbh that could be a couple of bites too! Has he got any anywhere else?

He has them on his torso but only around 4 and they're just small red dots, no yellow little blister on them unlike the ones on his neck

They have definitely appeared throughout the day though as I did a full body inspection this morning after seeing the ones on his neck!

Well they could "just" be bites, and I mean insect bites, not a snake bite! As he doesn't have a temperature, and if he doesn't develope one in the next couple of days then I think him having a virus is less likely than insect bites. But if it is Chickenpox or some other virus, you will probably know for certain in the morning!

This won't help you one bit, but I had Shingles when I was 17, and you can't get Shingles without having had Chickenpox, except my mum was never aware of me having Chickenpox, so you can apparently have very mild cases of Chickenpox. I'm hoping it is a very mild dose of Chickenpox, rather than it being either insect bites, or a full-blown case of Chickenpox.

Sleepaway · 22/04/2022 23:13

I thought DD had chickenpox. They too appeared slowly and she seemed to have no temp or illness. Just off her food a tiny bit. They were mainly on her torso/back. They weren't really itchy either. Three days later I started off with a scratchy throat. Turned out it wasn't chickenpox, we had Covid. It can manifest as chickenpox spots in children.

Larafromthe80s · 22/04/2022 23:23

@Sleepaway that's interesting as he's the only 1 of us who (to our knowledge) hasnt had covid.
He's 4. We tested him throughout especially when we had it but was always negative
Will try it again tomorrow as still have some LFs. That's if he's not had a big Chickenpox outbreak overnight!
