Damp smell on clothes

I bought a coat for dd off eBay but it has a really strong smell of damp, the coat itself looks clean it just has a damp smell to it, I’m not happy putting it on her with the smell is there anyway to get it out as it looks clean it’s just the smell or am I better off chucking it? This is why I hate buying second hand it would be a shame to throw it as it’s a pretty coat I’ve washed it but smells still strong 😣

It's probably been up in the attic. When I take stuff out our damp attic I'll do a fairly quick wash, hang outside then a proper wash and it smells fine. Some materials will need a good 2-3 washed first.

Wash it again but put white vinegar in instead of fabric softener see if that works to get rid of the smell .
