Rookie error at Lidl

Went to Lidl last night to do a big(ish) shop.

On way home there was a weird chemical-perfume smell in car and was worried the washing up liquid refill bag I'd bought had split open.

DP took the bags in once home and then the awful smell was in the house and then I discover the culprit -bloody scented loo roll!!!

I had no idea this was a thing - it stinks the house out and I'm wondering what it will do to our nether regions. I thought this problem was limited to sanpro?!

If I put the rolls in our cellar for a few days, do you think that will make the smell fade a bit?

Never noticed scented loo roll at Lidl.

at least now I know I need to be careful!

Moochio · 22/04/2022 08:56

Why does anyone need scented loo roll? Who asked for the this?

PuppyMonkey · 22/04/2022 08:57

My nether regions have a very bad reaction to scented loo roll - get rid!

FOJN · 22/04/2022 08:58

I made the same mistake at another supermarket a while ago. The smell did not fade. I didn't know it was a thing either but I'm more careful now and notice scented loo roll everywhere. Be interested to see if there is anyone who actually likes it.

fatherliamdeliverance · 22/04/2022 08:59

I've bought it by mistake (I can't smell thanks to covid so didn't even realise but someone asked why I thought perfumed bog roll was a good idea!). Anyway, no harm done at all from using it so don't worry about that.

strelitzialady · 22/04/2022 09:01

I don't want to waste it but I don't want to use it either!

Perhaps I could line the compost caddy with it to deter the badgers?

Take it back and ask for a refund

MissStarry · 22/04/2022 09:02

Why on earth has this become a “thing”? Both sanpro and now loo roll being impregnated with noxious artificial perfume?

It’s actually just bizarre as I’ve never spoken to anyone IRL or seen any post online loving a scented pad?

Whatever that high, sweet, fusted odour is meant to be, it definitely isn’t Chanel!! Revolting!!

LazyYogi · 22/04/2022 09:02

I bought coconut loo roll from Asda thinking it just meant there was coconut oil for moisturising or some such (i think it was during lockdown and choice was limited!)
Absolutely awful. A mistake.never to be repeated! Yuck.

Dammitthisisshit · 22/04/2022 09:05

I quite like it! I don’t actually buy it (bought once on offer without realising) but didn’t mind the smell, though I agree it’s not a natural scent.

Donate it to a food bank? I'm sure someone would use it, I can't understand the appeal of perfumed bog rolls myself but there must be people buying them or they wouldn't exist.

If you don't want it, give it to the food bank, or hygiene bank if you have one locally.

VeganGod · 22/04/2022 09:10

Get the canestan cream in OP, if you do decide to use it. 😬

Pbbananabagel · 22/04/2022 09:44

I love coconut scented loo roll but the floral stuff is really horrific

AlisonDonut · 22/04/2022 09:48

You've taken me right back to the start of lockdown. My OH went to a shop when all the loo roll shelves were empty and walked round a corner into a new delivery of loo roll. So he grabbed a large packet.

Came in and he'd bought scented loo roll. I couldn't bear it. So we had two loo rolls on the go for a while, one proper one for me and the scented for him.

He has never done it again. And now we are in France we don't have scented loo rolls so that's another bonus of living here. 😎

littlefireseverywhere · 22/04/2022 09:51

I agree take to a foodbank

Indoorcatmum · 22/04/2022 09:53

I got thrush for the first time in my life after using scented lol roll (100% that as I hadn't changed anything else and have never got it again since).

AnxiousSquirrel · 22/04/2022 09:54

I use the orange and cranberry scented one from Asda as well as the coconut one, they make the bathrooms smell lovely, was concerned about thrush when I first started using them but never had any issues so now we just buy them all the time.

CutesyUserName · 22/04/2022 10:23

I use the Aloe Vera or coconut scented from Aldi. I find the scent very subtle in both. Those that have used it here and bothered to comment seem to like it too. Not tried the Lidl one, but if it's stinking out your house, that's way over the top.

UnicornPooPoo · 22/04/2022 10:47

Seriously, it 'stinks the house out'. Do you live in a dolls house? I think you're exaggerating a bit OP.

Georgeskitchen · 22/04/2022 11:23

Never heard of scented bog roll but once had the misfortune to try scented period pads.....never again!!

SarahShorty · 22/04/2022 11:50

First I've heard of scented loo roll. You learning something new everyday!

SarahShorty · 22/04/2022 11:52

MrOllivander · 22/04/2022 11:53

Tesco subbed my normal toilet roll with scented
No thank you!

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 22/04/2022 11:55

My MIL bought some and I didn’t realise in time. My fanny itched the whole way home!
