Do M&S return clothing without a receipt? Can’t find it anywhere, bought in store so no online receipt. I’d be happy with a credit note, will they do this?

They might do. I've exchanged without a receipt. Each item now has a unique code so they can tell when it was bought and for how much.

They might do this if it’s their own brand so obvious you’ve bought from them. you’ll get the latest price in credits not the one you’ve bought it for, at least how it’s with me couple of years ago.
By the way you don’t get online receipt for the store purchase - just ordinary paper one.

Most places will give you a credit note or a gift card.

They are usually quite good and give a credit note. I have the app and opted to have my receipts to email and the app which means no piece of paper to lose.

It depends how long ago it was bought - I tried to take some stuff back I'd been gifted at Christmas, including some items that were still in stock and full price. They scanned the labels and told me when they'd been bought and as it was more than 28 days wouldn't refund, exchange or even give a credit note. Really infuriated me as it was still current stock they could've put back on the shelf!

When I worked for them in 1999 their main selling point was that they will accept returns without a receipt, no questions asked. I would assume it's the same today, for some reason. It was huge! The week's training focused hugely on it even telling a story about a lady who retuned a pair of curtains one year old and got all her money back, they were clearly used.

Not in my experience.

They categorically refused to refund me on two pairs of trousers bought 40 days before, even though they were faulty and they could evidence my purchase using my Sparks Card.

I asked to speak to the Manager but she was adamant that they would not refund, offer me a credit note or a replacement. She said I had had 35 days to notice the flaw.

I will never shop in M&S again but hope you have better luck. Ask them to find the purchase on your Sparks card

That's very optimistic to assume Marks and Spencer's haven't changed their returns policy in the last 23 years since you worked for them 😁 Unfortunately they have. It 35 days for full price items and only 14 days for sales items for both online and in store purchases. I understand why they no longer offer extended returns policies but it's a shame.

Update - they gave me a credit note, very happy with that 😃

But even if you return within time frame and uts gone into sale you won't get full exchange. I bought jeans for 39.50, lots receipt, took back within time frame and wanted to exchange. They could see I bought them for 39.50 but because they were in sale for £12 they would only let me have that amount. I was really annoyed!!

Can confirm that M&S have RFID tracking in their tags.
Returned something to them with no receipt that they could track was purchased two months prior, so it was out of the returns period.
Luckily I spoke to a wonderful manager who gave me a credit note, even out of the returns period.
