OP to you mean sunscreen? Sun protection?
If so it really depends on your skin type whether you will get a “golden tan”. Just go for 5 star uva protection. I don’t really think it matters which brand. I used Aldi’s own sun lotion on my last holiday abroad and didn’t burn at all. Cheap as chips as well.

As others have said, it depends on your skin type whether you tan or not. Sunscreen is there to protect your skin from sun damage. A lower factor would allow more uva/uvb to get to your skin and cause tanning, but you'd also risk burning.
I just use factor 30 from aldi or boots, it's got 5* uva protection which a lot of the more expensive brands don't have. If I want to look tanned, I use a gradual tan body lotion.
