Facebook censoring?

Can someone explain what the following means please? Am not the best with fb.
I posited a reply to a comment on a public page. Got a notification that the person I was addressing had replied, tried to open it and got a message that it couldn't open because either the session had expired or the comment was only open to members of a group that I am not part of. Except I'd already posted.
Now when I look at that public page and the initial topic my posts seem to have disappeared completely and then I look at my own fb history, all reference to it has completely disappeared, like it never happened.
Needless to say I was in a discussion/disagreement with 2 other posters. If they deleted their comments would mine automatically disappear too. And it would be a bit odd for 2 people to delete their posts after talking to me.
It feels a bit sinister and I'm wondering if anyone can explain it

Sinister? Surely the admin have just blocked you?

ImAvingOops · 19/04/2022 00:13

Why would that make any reference to the posts disappear off my own logs though?

There are a lot of quite nasty comments on that post which the admin allowed to remain.

You have been removed from the group & they have probably removed your comment. Someone else may have reported you.

ImAvingOops · 19/04/2022 06:24

Thanks. TRA really can't take it when you disagree with them, So childish to get someone removed because they say something you disagree with. Also really pissed off with Facebook because they've allowed really nasty comments to stay.

Be careful some of these people are unhinged

ImAvingOops · 19/04/2022 10:07

Yes, I'm a bit concerned. Have removed any identifying pics and my last name and adjusted privacy settings. I think I'm going to have to sit on my hands to stop myself from commenting, it's just that when I see people putting the boot in and making blatantly untrue statements I feel like I'm not doing my bit if I just let it pass. But Im definitely concerned about the crazies out there!

But that is the case even here. you can make the same case about the feminism board on MN. Or discussing immigration and it's effects on parts of society. I'm sure a male on here gets exactly the same perception as you did on that Facebook group. You just accept sites and group admins can set their own policy and there is no concept of free speech on either or any site. Lest you get banned for hate speech/not being supportive/not in the spirit of the site.

I think in many cases FB only respond if a complaint was made. So it's likely nobody has complained about the others.

Also it's most likely admin who take things down & remove members.

I wouldn't post anything argumentative on FB as it's not private and what you write can be used against you. It's probably best keep away from groups where people are arguing anyway - not good for the blood pressure!

ImAvingOops · 19/04/2022 10:42

I think MN is pretty good at letting posts stand on the whole, although occasionally HQ deletes things that maybe shouldn't have been removed. I think HQ likes to keep a thread intact as much as possible and I do generally take the view that deleting is censorship and should be reserved for the really nasty stuff.
But it seems on the fb thread, you can't politely ask someone to justify their pov without some stroppy man throwing his toys out of the pram and whining to the admin. It pisses me off that calling someone a bigot or hateful is perfectly okay on there, but asking someone to justify that, gets deleted.

You are right about my blood pressure though. This is why I got off twitter. Didn't mean to get embroiled in the fb thing but it just seemed so unjust to see poster after poster write total bullshit and not question any if it. Leaving it felt like a betrayal.

I'm intrigued what the argument was about?!

Just ignore them all. Not worth the drama.

ImAvingOops · 19/04/2022 16:06

It was the usual calling JKR a bigot and terf, without being able to explain when asked (politely), which bit of her statement was actually transphobic.
Then he threw his toys out of pram and got me deleted because he didn't like my opinions.
I want to track him down and stamp on his face Grin

Oh dear. I don't know how all this trans debate got so unpleasant. Lots of hate around the issue.
