Please can anyone share positive experiences of CBT for insomnia

I am hanging on by a teeny tiny thread, I need some hope please.

My sleep is in an absolute mess. The GP won’t prescribe anything to help me sleep due to a previous reaction to a drug that affected my central nervous system. They’ve just said I can be referred for CBT and suggested everything I already know about sleep hygiene.

Please can someone tell me about having CBT for insomnia and it working for them. How long did it take to make a difference? Any tips that I can use in the meantime? Anything positive?

Please no negative stories. I am dizzy and can’t think straight and am scared that my daughter will be taken into care as I can’t look after her properly and I need something to cling on to. Please.

So sorry to hear about your issues with sleeping. I have some horrible nights with insomnia myself and know the feeling of helplessness that it brings. It's so hard to function normally when you are sleep deprived. I really feel for you. I'm afraid I have never tried CBT so I can't comment on that. What I have tried is CBD oil and also Dormeasan drops. I take both at the moment and I'm generally getting at least 5 hours sleep at least per night. It's probably not enough but having had plenty of nights with 0 hours sleep I am happy with it. Apparently you can become immune to CBD oil in relation to sleep so you should alternate brands. You can get the Dormeasan sleep valerian-hops oral drops in health shops, Boots also stock it. You put 30 drops in water half an hour before sleeping. It tastes very unpleasant but again i'm so relieved to be getting some sleep I don't mind the taste. I really wish you all the best and hope that you get your sleep sorted. Keep trying different things and you will eventually find something that works. Take care x
