Katie Piper

I've listened to a two hour radio show presented by Katie Piper that was on last night. She is an amazing person. I have her book Start the Day with Katie and I use it a lot to feel positive in the morning. It made me think. I wondered what career she would have had if the attack on her had never happened. She's one of the best ever examples of being given lemons and making lemonade. (I don't mean to trivialise her experiences).

I was astonished to find out that the perpetrator was given two life sentences and to serve a minimum of 16 years. The sentencing for acid attacks needs looking at.

Why were you astonished?

PansyPetunia · 16/04/2022 23:05

what sentence do you think he should have had?

Hellocatshome · 16/04/2022 23:13

Two life sentences seems like a pretty serious sentence to me, what did you want him to get? But yes I agree Katie Piper is very inspirational.

Agree regarding Katie piper - truly inspirational and one of a kind

No idea about what you mean regarding the sentence - I assume there’s a typo..

I think the guy Ferne McCann had a relationship with got 25 years and it's not long enough.

A woman did the same thing to her ex. He went to Dignitas to kill himself. It's about intent, not outcome.

She was a model wasn’t she? I imagine she’d have done that. She’s brilliant. I thinks he’s a huge inspiration.

friendlycat · 16/04/2022 23:36

She was doing modelling work before the attack.

I’m so pleased for her that she’s carved out a successful career and family life and is truly inspiring. Her mother should also be credited with the love and support and encouragement she has devoted to her daughter as well as her wider family.

It’s difficult to imagine during the darkest of days post attack, and during the many operations she has endured, that her life could be as it is now.

She does also credit her surgeon with her recovery both cosmetically and physically but also mentally.

She absolutely deserves all the success in the world.

She is awesome. I'm so pleased that she seems to have a happy life now. She and her family must have been through hell.

“ I was astonished to find out that the perpetrator was given two life sentences and to serve a minimum of 16 years. The sentencing for acid attacks needs looking at.”

I took this to mean 2 life sentences sounds a long time ( I’m thinking 40 years minimum) but the attacker could apply for and may be given parole after 16 years, which doesn’t seem a long sentence for the severity of the crime.

Yes that's what I meant.

She’s not just inspirational, she is also an incredible interviewer. Extremely good at it. She has her own podcast and maybe because of what she has been through or because she has had extensive counselling but she really gets to e best out of interviewees. I’m a huge fan - she has so much gravitas in her personality.

I think she is amazing. I just can't imagine the pain and difficulty she has gone through.
