Please tell me it gets easier

Recently started the gym as I'm overweight and extremely unfit. I've been going for almost 2 weeks. I went again today at lunchtime and did weights and a bit of cardio but wow, my legs are in bits. I feel shaky and they feel like they're going to give way under me. I can barely walk down the stairs without feeling like I'm going to fall down them 😭

Please tell me it won't be like this every time after? Is there anything I can do to reduce this feeling?

Ate you getting any guidance, have a programme put together for you? If you're new to exercise it's v easy to overdo it and I jure yourself. Any reputable gym will take you round and build you a programme. Well done for getting going.

Don't worry. Your muscles are just a bit shocked because you are using them in a different way. They will adapt after a while and won't be so shaky. In the meantime though take things slowly and with light weights to avoid injuring yourself.

But stick with it. And try a few group classes if you can.

Not quite the same but I remember when I did Aerobics and the next day had to jump off the bus instead of stepping off because my legs would not work properly!

The best way around this is to do lots of gentle exercise in between the gym sessions. So this evening go for a stroll for an hour, tomorrow do the same, or go for a swim if you have time. When you clean your teeth do some squats. When the kettle boils, do some knee raises or countertop press ups. Or lift 'weights' with a can of beans in each hand, replicating the tougher moves in the gym.

I've had a warm bath tonight and it's slightly eased but absolutely horrendous. I genuinely can't walk up and down the stairs 😭

Take a painkiller. Anti inflammatory like ibuprofen ideally

And have a couple of rest days before hitting the gym again. Muscles need recovery time to rebuild stronger after you have shredded them with a workout.

Stick with it 💪
