Can you track bbc iplayer use? Not a thread about tv license

I have a tv license just to get that out of the way. I think someone is using my iplayer account because I can see programs in continue watching I've never watched.

On Netflix website you can track where it's being watched from. Can you do this on iplayer does anyone know please?

Just reset things password, surely?

pastypirate · 14/04/2022 22:47

That won't help I think it's a case of someone coming into my house when I'm not there

Most likely explanation is that programmes are autoplaying at the end of something you have watched, and therefore when you go back on to the site it is offering to continue playing them for you.

I was pestered relentlessly to continue watching Louis Theroux docs that I had never shown any inclination to watch, simply because this is what the player chose to 'autoplay' when the programme I had selected had finished.

Presumably you are talking about using an account via an on-demand service on your TV rather than just the plain old iPlayer website? I don't see any particular reason why you couldn't just log out, create a new ID, and log-in with that instead if you are still concerned. It's not a subscription service, so it's not as if someone is 'stealing' even if they are using your ID.

What makes you think someone's coming into your home?

carefullycourageous · 14/04/2022 22:49

It will help because you can log out, so they won't be able to use it.

But surely the bigger issue is someone is coming into your house Shock - who do you think it is?

Are you wanting to track the use so you can see if/when this person is coming in?

carefullycourageous · 14/04/2022 22:51

Agree with @XDownwiththissortofthingX this bloody feature drives me crackers, you watch a really moving documentary and then it offers you the latest episode of Not Going Out Hmm just fuck off and let me watch what I want.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 14/04/2022 22:52

@carefullycourageous

You can turn 'autoplay' off btw.

Can you?! How do I do this?

You are my hero.

I did not know this and failed to find it on a cursory search.

@carefullycourageous

It depends on whether you are watching on the iPlayer site, or via an on-demand service through your TV.

On the site it's pretty straightforward, on TV it'll will probably vary a bit model by model

Thank you, I will revisit this.

@pastypirate I hope you get your more serious issue sorted out!

Cluelessmouse · 14/04/2022 23:04

Surely the issue is that someone is coming in your house? Not iPlayer. Is there not another way to discover that?

springbreak22 · 14/04/2022 23:22

Log out

MadeForThis · 14/04/2022 23:49

Can you set up a pin no on your profile?

pastypirate · 15/04/2022 10:22

I've switched off auto play now. The continue watching is even more batshit now and no one has watched tv since last night. We shall see

OP posts:
Rachmc52 · 14/08/2022 18:18

Same happening to me - definitely not auto play so I think someone has hacked my tv and accessed it that way. No idea how to stop it - have reset my tv and changed password but don’t want to log out all the time

pastypirate · 14/08/2022 20:33

Mine has completely stopped now

OP posts:
MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 14/08/2022 20:35

So was it autoplay or someone coming into your home?

bigH111 · 17/01/2024 10:47

BLOODY SAME

MillicentRogers · 17/01/2024 10:51

Someone was breaking and entering g your house to sit down and watch TV? 😲😂

LetMeJustCheckMyCitrusPocket · 17/01/2024 10:57

Have you been away on holiday and signed in on any other devices?

I was at an Air BnB recently and iPlayer had a couple of different usernames showing when I went to access it, where others had forgotten to log out. They're probably now wondering why Tabby McTat is showing up on their continue watching list...
