A flight radar one….

After a very loud plane went overhead (my greyhound woke up from his post-breakfast snooze, so must have been loud!) I checked it on FR.

FR says it was a USAF refuelling plane, not out of the ordinary as we live in an area with USAF bases within 20 miles. Also says it was flying at 4000 ft. I watched it fly around, it then dropped to 3000ft. Then it just stopped and vanished.

I assume it landed on one of the bases (but placing when it vanished suggests it wasn’t where it came from), but usually you can watch them descend to landing. Just pondering really.

Yes, I’m on holiday. No, I don’t really have much else to occupy my mind right now. I’m waiting for DS to get up ahead of his dentist appointment (so actuallyI’m distracting myself from the huge bill that’s coming).

Hmmm... No idea.
Maybe it wasn't supposed to be identified as landing in UK maybe? ( prior to next stop.)

Sounds odd!

The USAF planes switch their tracking thingy off during take-off and landing, so they disappear from Flightradar. I was following one last week coming into Mildenhall and that just vanished off the screen too, a couple of miles out.

@chisanunian this seems to be exactly what happened. Locally taken photos show that it had several jets alongside it (not visible on FR). It seems they were practicing in-air refuelling.

Maybe it was Harry and Meghan dropping in on Her Majesty?

Buggers will do anything to steal fuel these days.
