If I ruled Mumsnet...

If you start a particularly juicy thread, you have to pay a deposit. If you don't come back with an update, you lose the deposit. I know I shouldn't get so invested, but I dooooooooo.

If you post on a thread without reading all of the OP's posts, you're banned for twenty-four hours so you can think about what you did!

Grin Any others?

I would like there to be a mumsnet battleground/wrestling ring for those users who get in to arguments with each other on another OPs thread. Their posts would be moved to the battle ground and they can then have it out with each other without spoiling the thread. I see these mini battles happening so often.

DialSquare · 19/04/2022 16:16

@C25kBecky

No, it looks like this.
Have you tried clicking on the 3 dots on the top right to see if the option is there? Seems strange that apple has the option and android doesn't.
C25kBecky · 19/04/2022 18:23

Yes, it just says unwatch and hide.

DialSquare · 19/04/2022 18:47

That is frustrating. Hopefully a future updated version will have the option.

UnlimitedChipsAndSalsa · 19/04/2022 21:28

Strange. I'm just signed in through my browser (on my android phone), and it says "OP's posts: See next. See all" on OPs' posts. Sorry, I can't screenshot it, though, because I don't know how to take screenshots on my phone ...or upload photos in a post ...

UnlimitedChipsAndSalsa · 19/04/2022 21:30

I guess that means I won't be able to post anything mean because I won't be able to also post the obligatory cute animal picture.

A rich people corner for those on salaries over £75k.

In that spirit I would also have a clever kids corner for those whose Y10 kids are expected 7-9 in all their GCSEs, or are applying for Oxbridge/med school/vet college. It can feel a bit crass to be fussing over the difference between an A and an A star when, on the same thread, another poster is worried that their kid is struggling with English or Maths retakes.

I like this idea!

This is a splendid idea but I think mumsnet should be a little more dignified.

Quarreling MNetters would each choose a second, whose job is to attempt a reconciliation between the parties. Should that fail, the seconds will bring the protagonists to the Mumsnet Duelling Field at dawn. There will be immense secrecy, due to the ban on internet duelling or something. A doctor will be in attendance, private or NHS depending on income. When the sorry business is over, the survivors will adjourn to an inn for a hearty breakfast/flee the country.

If I ruled MN I wouldn't have approved this relaunch - it's beyond awful

MaMaLa321 · 20/04/2022 08:56

it is awful, but I guess we'll all moan a lot, and then get used to it.

I wish MN was more proactive about shifting stuff off AIBU, that isn't.

anotherneutralname · 20/04/2022 08:59

@SirChenjins I liked your post so much I wanted to bookmark it. But then I couldn't, because, you know "site update" (I can't possibly write "improvement").

SirChenjins · 20/04/2022 11:09

I hope we don't just used to it - I hope they revert back to the legacy version while they sort this massive mess out

OrangeGrovesAplenty · 21/04/2022 15:29

If I ruled MN, I'd bring back Advanced Search.

Oh what - is that gone too?? FFS. 😫

Oh I missed that. ‘New and improved’ seems to have redefined by MN

BruceAndNosh · 22/04/2022 13:19

I'd put all the deleted threads in a subforum but not allow new replies.

Oh yes! It's so irritating to be following a thread then suddenly it's gone. If I ruled MN I wouldn't delete threads, just lock them and move to a "deleted threads" section.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 23/04/2022 23:34

I hate deleted threads too. Unless there's a very good reason, they should indeed just be locked but allowed to stay. Maybe some kind of musical and graphic adaptation of the Hey Duggee 'Stick' song could play when you click into it: "Troll, troll, troll, troll, troll, troll, troll, troll, troll, troll, troll, troll, troll-y, troll-y, troll, troll" with a pathetic troll character wearing pants that are aflame and a dunce's hat and a big sign saying 'This is the OP, this is!'.

It's particularly irritating that they seem to stay in the listings too - even in 'Active' - what's that all about?

Topseyt123 · 23/04/2022 23:49

I'd have an edit function. I think this replatforming was a golden opportunity to put one in, and it still isn't there.

Also, stop deleting so many threads. Surely you can just put up a warning and then the lock them so that they still stand but accept no further replies?

SenecaFallsRedux · 24/04/2022 00:25

I always do the preview before I post a message. You can edit that.

I’d block everyone and run around agreeing with myself.

Shouting " I Anboooo! I Anbooo!" (ANBU) 😄

There isn't a preview option on the app though, just on the site.

That's one of the reasons I stopped using the app. On my phone (android), the website is more user-friendly than the app.
