If you start a particularly juicy thread, you have to pay a deposit. If you don't come back with an update, you lose the deposit. I know I shouldn't get so invested, but I dooooooooo.

If you post on a thread without reading all of the OP's posts, you're banned for twenty-four hours so you can think about what you did!

Grin Any others?

Stop removing posts, just have a disclaimer, dislike or hide button. If you're a nasty prick, I'd like to know about that, and why, please.
It's very frustrating to have threads full of this post has been removed. Here's a link to mumsnet talk guidelines.
Plus, I've seen some things removed and it really is a Whyyyyyy? situation where you can't think why that post is particularly upsetting but they've left up a lot of other blatantly horrible posts.

SillySallySassySausage · 17/04/2022 14:20

@SirChenjins

Fear not, MN won’t delete a post just because someone doesn’t like it - only if it breaches talk guidelines.

Absolutely not the case. As has been proved, many times.

Fluffymule · 17/04/2022 14:50

Immediate deletion for the ‘clutching at straws’ posters who always chip in with a ridiculous, tenuous reason for terrible behaviour, whilst everyone else is agreeing with the OP that, for example, yes their DSIL is being a bitch by giving her a used, broken wooden spoon as a birthday gift.

SirChenjins · 17/04/2022 16:00

The post will have breached a guideline for it to be deleted. A thread can go if the OP changes their mind - but that’s different.

Sparklingbrook · 17/04/2022 16:07

I agree. Also I assume MNHQ will see if a poster consistently sails close to the wind with TGs and could delete if there’s a pattern of doing this.
anotherneutralname · 17/04/2022 19:07

I was going to post my support for the "Tea and Sympathy" section but I see I would be repeating others and not adding anything to the thread...and I don't want to ruin my chance of a Brownies badge so am now desperately scraping for a new idea to add!

Oo, I know: when people ask for opinions on a dress or item of clothing, they MUST insert a picture of it, not a link to it. I have the attention span of an goldfish with dementia; if I leave here to go clicking onto other sites, I will completely forget to come back or how I ended up on that clothes site in the first place Blush.

SirChenjins · 17/04/2022 22:59

YY to a photo and not a link. I’m like you - I can disappear down rabbit holes of clothing sites and then onto other sites and lose hours of my life. Then I remember I was on MN but can’t find the thread, so go onto other threads and pooooft - I’m another day closer to death and I’ve achieved precisely nothing with my time.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 19/04/2022 11:16

There's a thread right now where OP is asking if people agree that this is a tiny pasta portion at a restaurant - but there's no pic! Fair enough, in this case, something is preventing OP's pic from posting, rather than her not considering in the first place that a photo might just help; but I still like the comment:

"IT'S MASSIVE!!/THAT'S TINY!"

SirChenjins · 19/04/2022 11:36

I saw that - brilliant post!

sorryforswearing · 19/04/2022 11:43

I’d like to be able to comment on a previous comment using a reply button as you can with Facebook. Replies under the original comment. would cut out all the scrolling back and you’d quickly be able to see if the point you’re making had already been put forward.

nosyupnorth · 19/04/2022 11:50

Genuinely I would love something that would let you filter a thread to just see OPs comments - it would provide a bit of balance between not juming into comment based off the OP alone without having to trawl through 10+ pages of repetitive comments just to find the one message OP left dripfeeding in some additional detail that changes the whole context of the post.

SirChenjins · 19/04/2022 11:55

You can just see the OP’s posts - just click on ‘see all’ in their OP

C25kBecky · 19/04/2022 12:35

I'd give an instant ban to posters that use they/them when the op has said she/him.

Give me the irrational rage.

C25kBecky · 19/04/2022 12:35

@SirChenjins

You can't on the app.
CornishGem1975 · 19/04/2022 12:38

I'd ban the phrase 'Were you the OW'.

DialSquare · 19/04/2022 12:46

I can see just the the OPs comments on the app. Just click on the little golf tee looking icon (no idea what it's called!) on the top right on a thread (see screen shot below) then click on the OP at the top.

xedise952 · 19/04/2022 12:53

Like dislike buttons would ruin the site. I like that they don't exist

decentchap · 19/04/2022 13:17

I would ban 'woke speak' and keep the raving feminists in a corner. Not all feminism is 'raving'. I would also ban gender changing threads. Control your kids and make up your own minds.
This site has much to offer many but self-indulgence should be a no-no.

SirChenjins · 19/04/2022 13:20

You can't on the app

I didn't know that (I don't use it), but that's not good - MN definitely needs to sort that out.

C25kBecky · 19/04/2022 13:30

@Dialsquare my android app doesn't look like that

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 19/04/2022 13:32

I would ban any person who goes on AIBU, and after a couple of replies realises that they are indeed unreasonable, and takes complete responsibility for their unreasonableness. In short, any poster who is reasonable about their unreasonableness.

oldwhyno · 19/04/2022 13:44

editing/deleting no. It just gets abused.

up/down vote, no. It creates echo chambers and brigading, and you can find that experience elsewhere.

threaded conversations, YES!

DialSquare · 19/04/2022 13:48
@Dialsquare my android app doesn't look like that
That's strange. You would think it would work on both apple and android. I've taken a screen shot of the thread before selecting the icon. Do you not have the golf tee icon at all on yours?

If I ruled Mumsnet...

No, it looks like this.

@DialSquare OMG I have never noticed that icon before Blush
