Would you wear black to a wedding?

I wore black & white to my friend’s wedding years ago & got loads of compliments but I’m thinking of buying a very flattering shortish black dress to wear to a wedding in August. I’m hoping it will cover a multitude of sins! Will team with chunky gold jewellery & a gold handbag ( haven’t decided on headwear yet).

Oh and my bridesmaids at my wedding wore black dresses which both have gotten fantastic wear out of. Everyone's a winner!

Possibly in the winter, but I definitely wouldn’t in August. Wear something nice and summery!

I would. I wore a black and white dress and a black blazer to my brother's wedding. I didn't think anything of it at the time.

I have. Black onesie and white jacket with ivory flower hairband. I had lots of compliments.
If you are going to do it just make sure the black isn't too much; balance is everything.

As long as you’re not head to toe in black it’s fine.

My main worry about black now would be matching bridesmaids - last three weddings I’ve been to have had BM’s in black dresses.

I'm having a bit of a laugh to myself at the idea of asking the bride if it's ok to wear black. Unless she's a very fussy and controlling person, then it's probably well down her list of priorities. And any bride whose abiding memory of her own wedding day is the fact that one of the female guests wore black, is not going to be happy with anything in life, is she?

No. You wear black to mourn. You wear bright colours to a weeding so as to compliment the bride's dress.

I had my bridesmaids in black and the only rule for my wedding was no black nor white.
