Healthy Start card

Was just wondering, as I've just got my Healthy Start card. Does it know only to pay for the eligible items you've scanned? So if I buy £5 of fruit and veg and the rest of my shopping is £10 of non-eligible items, will the £15 total come off my healthy start card or just the £5?

Not asking in order to use my HS money for other things, no danger of that as my kids run through far more fruit than my healthy start vouchers anyway! I just want to know how it works at the till for managing my money.

Hiya did you manage to purchase your items I'm scared to do my shopping as I don't want it to decline

@Ka210999 Sorry I've only just seen this!

It lets me pay for any shopping with it. I haven't tried alcohol as I don't buy much. I have found I can't put it towards a higher cost shop. So if my shopping is £20 and I have £10 on the card, I can't pay half off with it and half off with another card. I could put it in £10 cash in first then the card though. I find it a bit frustrating for this reason so tend to keep it for when I need just a couple of quids worth of shopping somewhere.

Just put the eligible stuff thru first and use card. Then put the rest of your shopping thru and pay normally.
