If you have a dog, do you judge people who don't have dogs?

That's all.
We seem to be literally the last of anyone we know not to have a dog.
Even my friend who had an allergic husband has found a poodle.
My heart wants a dog but my head knows that they are bloody hard work bloody expensive and a massive tie.
I've already done all of those things with children

Confused
GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 09/04/2022 21:09

Judge? No why would I? What a funny thing to say!

Floralnomad · 09/04/2022 21:10

Not at all why would anyone judge you for your choice or non choice of pet it’s bizarre.

NiceTwin · 09/04/2022 21:10

Of course not no.

MintyMoocow · 09/04/2022 21:10

I judge people who don’t have cats!

breakdown19 · 09/04/2022 21:10

I think lots of people think that dogs are so life enhancing etc and are saying "oh go on, you should"
Etc

Erm no

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 09/04/2022 21:11

Eh?! If anything I actively discourage friends who murmur about wanting a dog!! I adore my dog but honestly if friends talk about getting one I tend to give them a reality check about the downsides!

DramaAlpaca · 09/04/2022 21:11

Judge people without dogs? Of course not! Dogs are lovely but they are everything you said in your post. We've decided we won't have another after our current two are no more, much as we love them we'd like our freedom back.

breakdown19 · 09/04/2022 21:11

What now ?

Grasping · 09/04/2022 21:17

I had a dog
I may get another dog in the future.

Currently, I don’t want a dog. After many years of caring for children/pets/parents. I love having no responsibilities AT ALL.

Spaghag · 09/04/2022 21:19

I'm not a dog lover really. I do like friends' dogs & will obviously fuss them but just not enough of a fan to have one myself. I have 2 cats.

It's never occurred to me that my choice of pet may just be one more thing to be judged on.

M0rT · 09/04/2022 21:23

I regularly tell people without dogs not to get one. They are welcome to mind mine any time they get the urge and then go home to their hair free peaceful house!
You're right to look on it as a tie, and whats often glossed over is the expense.
I've a monthly plan with the vets, food, toys, beds, dog walker when we are very busy. If we go away we have to factor in the cost of a dog sitter also, vet monthly plan only covers vaccinations, worming/flea checkups.
Any accident or illness is more cost.
It doesn't puzzle me at all that a lot of people don't want to/can't take all that on.
I don't even judge people who don't like dogs, we are all different and different does not equal wrong.

oliviastwisted · 09/04/2022 21:26

We got our first dog a year ago. I have never been a dig person. He is absolutely fantastic and he has given our children some much needed responsibility for another living being. I will say as a greyhound he isn’t particularly hard work. He needs two walks and lots of cuddles and some playtime and he is peaceful as anything with that level of input.

I absolutely adore him but having not been a dog person before we got him I completely get other people not having one.

Iheartmysmart · 09/04/2022 21:29

Nope, no judgment here. I don’t intend getting another when I’ve no longer got mine. I love him dearly but like a previous poster I shan’t miss the responsibility or the cost. Or the mud and the hair, walking around in the cold while he inspects every blade of grass, being woken up at 5.30am every morning….

TheCanyon · 09/04/2022 21:34

Nope. My gloves stink of wet dog after petting him earlier, I currently have a wet thigh where he's dribbled on me, he's just this second grated a beauty.

Nope, no judgement. I'd probably high five you

NuffSaidSam · 09/04/2022 21:37

I don't judge people who don't have a dog.

I judge people who don't LIKE dogs. I think they should be cast out from our society and forced to live on a prison island. But that's just my opinion.

DiscoBadgers · 09/04/2022 21:38

No, but I don’t trust people who don’t like animals.

ReadyToMoveIt · 09/04/2022 21:40

No.
In fact when some friends told me they we’re getting a dog in lockdown I told them to think very very carefully before committing.
Adore our dog and wouldn’t be without him but it’s hard work, especially alongside 3 kids (the dog came first). It’s a huge commitment and not one to be taken likely.
When ours is gone we won’t have another.

ReadyToMoveIt · 09/04/2022 21:42

And yes, the expense. Our insurance is now £90 per month. He has a sensitive stomach and can only tolerate one type of food, which is £50 a month. And kennels when we go away. Plus worming, vaccinations etc…

ReadyToMoveIt · 09/04/2022 21:43

@MintyMoocow

I judge people who don’t have cats!
I can’t stand cats. Judge away!
TheVanguardSix · 09/04/2022 21:44

God no. I would never judge a non-owner. Remember, those of who have a dog were once non-owners too!
To be honest, the lockdown frenzy has resulted in so many dog owners who really shouldn’t be dog owners. I judge those people! There are so many reactive and hostile dogs now… untrained, unwalked, unhappy dogs bought at a premium.

Ragwort · 09/04/2022 21:45

Disco genuinely interested, why do you say that? I don't like animals, I wouldn't be cruel to one but I would never have a pet. I am a law abiding citizen, active in the community, run the local Food Bank, help old people etc etc ... so why wouldn't you 'trust me'.

HippeePrincess · 09/04/2022 21:45

No, but I judge people who don't like dogs Grin
