I'd like to shout about my new hobby!

I've waited and waited for YEARS for this to be socially acceptable and whilst it's popular in New York (and London apparently) it's not something I see people doing in my area. So I've finally had my "fuck it" moment and at the age of 37 bought... rollerskates! Practised yesterday in the park and I absolutely bloody loved it! Had a few 🤔 looks but nobody laughed and the best bit is I've inspired two friends to go out and buy some too! It's fun, active and a great thigh workout.

Best thing about getting older... I really don't give a fuck what other people think anymore. Anyway, I'm chuffed to bits that I've found a new hobby so I thought I'd bore you lot with it. Like Ross Geller "not knowing when to shut up" I've found My Thing! 😄🛼💕

Just make sure you are wearing wrist guards and a helmet. 😌

I bought a pair when I turned 50, nearly two years ago.
I live in the US and I'm grateful that's it's never gone away.
My local rink has adult lessons and disco nights on Thursdays.
Back in the '90's, my city used to shut down a major street for roller skaters on a Sunday, every two weeks but sadly stopped it.
However, they've brought out an outdoor rink in a city park and it's been wonderful!

I have a male friend in his 40s(and apparently heterosexual) who regularly roller skates along the seafront and goes to the roller disco with his 10yo daughter. They're both really very good and adorable

Brilliant hobby! Our granddaughter loves roller skating, and I wouldn't mind having a go, but I'm already a liability on my two legs.

Our local rollerdisco is extremely diverse, kids through to people in their 80s. I love it, especially their themed music nights, but it is some workout!

I've got a pair of Bauer blade to quad conversions and I love them. They've got pink coloured hangers and laces and light up wheels!! I love skating and visiting my local Rink.

I'm living dangerously, breaking AALLLLL the Mumsnet rules about being incredibly shady about my hobbies. 😂

I loved roller blading as a child, and when I turned 50, I bought a pair. Took some getting used to ( I fell a few times), but I got into the habit of getting up about 6am and whizzing round my council estate for 15 minutes before getting ready for work.
Thanks for the reminder, op. They're in the shed, but tomorrow they are coming back out !!
