Our guests from Ukraine

Over the past few days I've had some PMs offering items for our guests.
That is very kind of you all and I'm sorry I can't reply to everyone.
Please don't think I am not grateful.

These ladies are very proud and it's very difficult for them to accept gifts
They also don't want to feel as though they are a charity case.
We have tried to give them cash but this has turned into a loan at their request.
Until their benefits come through.
Our Son and his family came last night bringing his dogs well the little ones were
so excited playing with our DGC and these dogs who love everyone.
There are no barriers with children.
We ALL had a take away which helped relationships with the difference in culture.

This morning one of the little ones called DH 'G' which our DGC call him.
Mine is a bit harder as I'm called 'winda'

Something they can perhaps apply for themselves for the children?

I think it's very hard for them to accept help - these were ordinary people living ordinary lives, many owned homes, drove cars, had successful careers and they have had to flee, most will never have had to rely on handouts and it's tough.

Welcoming them into your family is wonderful and hopefully giving them an ordinary family life will help to heal the emotional wounds for the children, for the adults only returning home to an independent Ukraine can start the process alas.

We have several families now in my town and there's a welcome party for them later, rather than give them things we as a town have set up a "shop" and they can "buy" with coupons what they need, seems to have worked
