Passport query

Hoping someone may know the answer...

My (adult) passport expired a few years ago and I'd like to renew it now. It was in my maiden name- I'm married now although separated and am in the process of switching things back to my maiden name and as the divorce hasn't gone through yet, I'm going to change it back by deed poll.

One of the questions on the application is 'has your name changed since your last application' and obviously I did get married and used my married name- but I don't want the new passport to be in my married name and I want it to be in my maiden name which is what is on the expired passport. So is some big explanation required about this when applying - do they need to see my marriage certificate and then a deed poll document- or as I would be applying for a passport in my maiden name- should it be straightforward with no backstory required?

I had to list all the names I’d previously been known by, so maiden name and first married name, but applied in my second married name.

You need to list all your names you have been known by. If you were known by your married name then you need to note that. You will still be able to have your passport in your married name but I expect somewhere, authorities will note your previous “AKA”.

Thank you both- I've not been able to look through the form- do they need anything other than me just listing the names? Do they need my marriage certificate (which is with my solicitors) and do they need a deed poll for me to be able to go back to my maiden name?
