I updated address on my driving license but fines were still sent to old address?

Did I do something wrong? Was updating address on driving license not enough? I don’t understand! We moved home last year and I updated address with dvla and they sent me new driving license with new address on.

I collected post from old address and I’ve been sent parking fines but they were issued after I changed address? They’ve really escalated.

Going to sort it all out today and intended on calling them explaining they’d sent correspondence to wrong address but I have a feeling I’ve done something wrong. Was I meant to update my V5 or something too?

Please help!

Yes it goes to the address where your car is registered ie your V5

Registration document of vehicle? Fines and correspondence from DVLA about the car will go to that address

TeaStory · 08/04/2022 08:22

You needed to update the V5, yes, as they send fines to the address the vehicle is registered to on that - they don’t assume who the driver is.

Yes you need to keep the address the actual car is registered to up to date. Fines go to the registered keeper of the vehicle, they don’t know who was driving so your driving licence doesn’t help.

loudbatperson · 08/04/2022 08:23

Fines go to the address the car is registered to not the driving licence address. The two are not linked.

You will need complete a change of address with the DVLA using your V5.

Orangesox · 08/04/2022 08:24

As above, you needed to update the address on your v5c (logbook) for your vehicle. Please do the sensible thing and check that you’re not also driving around in an untaxed car as you won’t have received the VED reminder also if it’s expired since you moved house.

The license isn’t linked to the car you need to update the car’s address via the V5 as well.

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 08/04/2022 08:24

Yes unfortunately info about the cars registered keeper and address isn’t obtained from driving licence details. Your license isn’t linked to the car you own.

It has your address on. What do you think?

Where does your insurance company think you live?

Ah right thank you everyone! I’m a twit!

No just bureaucracy’s I only found out when I moved - changed address for my council tax. But apparently needed to contact the electoral roll dept (next door) to update them.
