My iPhones not making a sound when I get a text and I can’t figure out why. Dh is in hospital

And has a tracheostomy so it’s our only means of communication.

Any ideas how to fix it? It worked earlier and now it doesn’t.

Does it automatically switch to do not disturb in the evening? I don't have an iPhone but do you swipe UP and click on the crescent moon?

Little switch on the side at the top I think .

Oh no. Do you have a teenager nearby? DD had to fix my sound recently.

This turns the silent mode off .

Has do not disturb turned on?

My little switch is at the top on the left hand side . My dd had to show me coz I had no idea it was there and what it was for but I was getting no sound and couldn’t understand why .

Check silent switch
Check sounds volume in settings> sounds and haptics
Check do not disturb in the control Center (swipe down from top right of screen)
Check settings> notifications > messages
Check in messages that there isn't a bell with a line through next to the relevant chat, swipe to the left and then turn it off with the purple button

I’ve tried all of these, his texts are etc are set to sos so they’ll get through if it’s on silent it’s just mildly annoying that earlier it worked and now it’s decided not to work.

Several options

-does it ping if anyone else texts you or is it just DH?

• little switch on the side, as PP have said
• sound buttons just below these - the top one turns the sound up
• have you switched to Focus?swipe. Down diagonally from top right of screen as you look at it, see if Focus is switched on?
• in the same place, is the sound slider on the right hand side down?

Stating the obvious but is the volume turned up. Two buttons on the left if an iPhone and very easy to accidentally mute it.

Swipe down form the top, do you have a Focus setting on?

Switch it completely off and on again
Mine does this sometime or it can be because I've got my Apple Watch on silent which seems to force my iPhone to be silent too

Can you hear a notification come in if you have headphones in?

As a temporary workaround to hear him overnight could you connect to WhatsApp / iCloud on your laptop and switch that to stay awake?

It might be focus. I’m updating the phone at the moment.

He hasn’t got whatsapp anymore.

I haven't noticed with texts, because I don't get many, but with WhatsApp I don't get a 'ping' if it's already open on WhatsApp.I have to be sure to put it on something else (usually MN!!)

Have you been using it with a bluetooth device (earphones for example) and they are still connected?

This has happened a couple of times with my phone and I thought it was broken because I had no sound.

Turn off the bluetooth on the phone then send yourself a text to see if it fixes it.

It’s working again now! Phew.
