Manchester airport

Has anyone flown from there recently? We are just about to book our summer holiday and our nearest airport is Manchester, after seeing all the reports of queues and things it’s making me question if we should look elsewhere, Manchester is always a bit mental at the best of times. Is things likely to settle and calm by summer holidays or will it be absolute chaos. Would something like Birmingham be better or are they all similar just now?

All Airports are struggling at the moment, mainly due to recruitment issues. However, things should calm down in a few weeks and be back to 'normal' for summer holidays.

It's hit and miss from day to day it seems, took us 7 minutes to get through security in T2 last week but my friend flew the day after at a similar time and it took her 2.5 hours...

It’s never great there at the best of times, pre Covid we’ve been known to join the line for security outside and other times we’ve got through super quickly. Hopefully they will get the staffing issues sorted before the next peak time. I will just have to make a decision and book it I think and then just get there as early as possible and hope for the best.

Co-worker flew from there at weekend and said he spent more time in the airport and in the runway than he did the flights to Florence.

I read yesterday that Liverpool Airport is great, no problems with big queues at all.

Do you have young kids?

A friend of mine got through yesterday in an hour as she was given priority due to having a 5 year old.

She then had to wait two hours airside as plane was late in and the airport staff weren't on the ball offloading her plane when it came in.

I travelled home today. The way there I was worried about travelling and it was pretty stressful took about 2hours to get through security alone. Then Ryan air didn’t tell customers that they changed terminals so had to sprint from one end to the other and we arrived 4.5 hours before flight.

If Liverpool airport is an option I would fly from there instead. We always try to as Manchester is always a horrible experience and Liverpool is way better.

Twillseeker · 08/04/2022 00:08

I will have a look at Liverpool, I don’t think the flights I was looking at had there as an option but it might be doable with a different airline.

My DD is 6 so probably won’t be young enough for any priority but my teenage DS has Crohn’s disease so we might actually get priority for him as hours of queues might be difficult if he isn’t doing well and needs access to toilets etc.

my dds flew out from bham to amsterdam on Weds, and Im due to fly from bham on a couple of weeks, similar chaos there Im afraid. My dsis sent me a newspaper article about how bad it was the other day! Id picked bham rather than Manchester as I thought it might be better - seems not!
