I am looking for recommendations in Manchester as visiting next month. Haven’t been before! Anything I must see/do? Areas to check out? Any nice places to have brunch? Dinner is booked already. Thanks 😊

Where is dinner booked?
That might help us understand what you like

Manchester is very marmite.

Question10 · 06/04/2022 21:46

Oh and any places to avoid?

@MySecretHistory oh no I hate marmite 😂. Dinner is in hotel one night and at a small tapas place the next. I’m a real foodie and like a nice bar to have a cocktail in. Also like independent shops and culture!

Is it Tast? If so it's great.
I always enjoy mackie mayor for a variety of food.

Do you want to stay in the centre?

Are you driving or public transport?

Is it just you or with other people?

What sort of age range and interests need to be catered for?

Aflecks Palace

Northern Quarter/Afflecks Palace. It's a bit of a theme park for people my age who were teens/young adults in the 1980s but it has some cute shops. Btw, in the actual 1980s it was a Here Be Dragons part of Manchester.

What do you like to do? There’s a real mix of things.

For ‘foodie’ brunch I would recommend:

  • Smithfield social
  • Peter street kitchen
  • dishoom (if you don’t have one near you).
Mackie Mayor as mentioned is great.

‘Glam’ places to visit are:

  • the ivy
Blues kitchen Albert schloss 20 stories

Activity wise:
MOSI
Manchester museum
Afflecks palace
Heaton park (you’ll need to get the tram but it’s easy)
Tatton park (train ride to knutsford - about 40 mins but it’s a lovely Cheshire town)
Brewery tour - runaway brewery is behind Manchester picadilly.
Escape to freight island / Ramona are outdoor trendy bars / food places.

Bars which are nice:
Haunt
Salut wine bar

If you’re after a pub in the city centre:
Crown and kettle
The wharf
Bay horse tavern
Blackfriars (also has an amazing restaurant)
The bridge (very old school but very central - usually has a disco…..)
