Talent agency just asked me if I'd like to be one of them...

and I can't work out if this is good or bad! I've sent my cv in a couple of times, with no response. I guess it's great that they'd like to offer me a job, but I'm wondering whether/why I'm not suitable for any of the roles they head-hunt for?
Don't get me wrong, it sounds like a great job, (even if it's not exactly where I want to land), and I'll go for it, and be very bloody grateful if I get it - and it would be a great experience and enable me to make lots of the right contacts in higher positions, but I'm just a little unnerved by it - does it mean I'm too crap for the jobs they place?

Um..I don't really understand what they've offered you?

dipdye · 05/04/2022 01:12

Is it legit?

Stichintime · 05/04/2022 01:17

Take away the word 'Talent' for a moment. They are asking you if you'll do the same job as them, finding people to become agents for an agency, because theres not enough other jobs.

Mamathulu · 05/04/2022 01:24

Yeah, it's a completely legit company - they source technical and creative talent. They mostly used to work in the industry they source people for.The staff all look lovely, proficient, and experienced.
@PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn, they emailed me to see if I would be interested in a post with their company, so they've essentially head-hunted me to be a head-hunter!

OP posts:
AnnesBrokenSlate · 05/04/2022 01:27

Do you want to be an agent? Or do you want to be 'talent'? They're completely different roles and skillets.

Mamathulu · 05/04/2022 01:29

That's the thing though @stitchintime, the people they source for clients aren't other agents, and the industry has a shortage of workers in one particular area, and the industry is booming again, now covid's (apparently) calmed down.

OP posts:
Mamathulu · 05/04/2022 01:33

@AnnesBrokenSlate (great name, btw) - Ideally talent, but I can do both, and while I'm working on my own projects I could realistically do this alongside for a while - it's a one year fixed term, wfh, 3 day week - can't really see a down side right now, although of course that could come when I discover the salary! I'm definitely going to go for it, I'm just wondering why this is their first choice rather then farm me out.

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 05/04/2022 01:37

Oh I see. Maybe you're talent they want for themselves. I'd ask them during the interview process.

Good luck, op!

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 05/04/2022 01:37

Your*

Sigh.

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 05/04/2022 01:38

Shit I was right first time. Clearly time for me to go to sleep Blush

Discountclaimed · 05/04/2022 06:48

You sound excited and I am sure that’s a prerequisite for this type of job. Good luck- it sounds like a really exciting opportunity. I would say- learn to take rejection as if it is nothing, be positive and you can achieve anything

Mamathulu · 05/04/2022 13:01

Aw, thank you @Discountclaimed! It is always nice to be headhunted, I've just never been headhunted to be a headhunter before! Grin

I have a picture of you with spear in hand 😁

Hi

You sent them your cv so you haven't been headhunted. For starters you need to learn what the role involves. Sounds like you don't know what headhunting is

You should explore the opportunity more. It could be a good career

Yeah I agree with this. I keep seeing the word headhunted but no actual headhunting being described by op

Basically it’s a recruitment role. You’re not head hunting others either OP, you’re going to match applicants to vacancies.

StrangeCondition · 06/04/2022 08:30

So you sent your CV in and they've asked you if you want a job...that's not headhunted, that's applying for a job yourself

dontgobaconmyheart · 06/04/2022 11:09

Is it a commission based thing? Invited to interview or offered a job out of the blue? I would ask for more details on salary and an actual job description before any commitment.

It just sounds like they have vacancies for recruitment/admin screening roles and have your CV. If you've no prior experience of it and it doesn't require any I don't think you've been 'headhunted' OP, just that there are vacancies there and you've previously supplied a CV and registered your details with them.

If you need a job and it's suitable then of course it's a stroke of luck and a great opportunity as well as may lead to a career but I'd gain an understanding of the day to day expectations first. It sounds like an admin type role, and wfh isn't likely to offer massive opportunities to forge contacts.

Hoppinggreen · 06/04/2022 11:15

It’s a sales job, pure and simple. Nothing wrong with that but be clear it will probably involve cold calling companies offering your services. And if you don’t quickly hit your targets you will be gone. I have been in Sales Training and Management for over 20 years and I won’t touch Recruitment, it’s pretty hard core
Many “Talent” (ie Recruitment) companies I have dealt with have offered me a job in the past. It’s obvious a compliment but it’s not incredibly unusual
Sorry to be Debbie downer but please go into it with your eyes open

Mamathulu · 06/04/2022 23:39

Thanks all - there are some valid points here I'd not considered. Had a chat earlier today, and it seems like a great job, but I'm not sure I'm the right fit for it. I'll just see where it takes me - seems like a lovely company, so it could be a smart move - we'll see how it goes.

OP posts:
PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 07/04/2022 00:54

I think it sounds like a positive move, op. You said in your first post it was a good step in the right direction- don't let go of your excitement! Especially not because of discussions here as to what extend you might or might not have been headhunted. Honestly, I'd be jumping for joy ti have someone reach out to me like this.

Go for it - enjoy it - learn everything you can. Good luck!
