Forgive me if there are threads on this already, but coming here to seek some moral support!!
I am currently on holiday with my partner. We had to get a train for around 10 minutes from one place to another, but we got confused and got off too early. We couldn't see another train indicated for an hour and the station seemed to be in the middle of nowhere, but we walked down the road for a while and eventually found a bus stop. When the bus arrived it was packed, with no room to get on at the front, so we got on at the back, assuming we would be able to buy a ticket from a machine or conductor. There was no machine. A conductor appeared after less than two minutes, wouldn't let us buy tickets, and fined us €100!! I know we were probably silly to get into this situation but obviously we weren't trying to break any rules, just abroad and confused. €100 is a lot of money to us, a big chunk of what we we had put aside to spend for the rest of the week. We will cope but I am just so upset by the whole situation and struggling to feel good about the rest of the holiday. The thought of spending any more money at all makes me feel sick at this point!
If anyone can share any stories of similar expensive mistakes, I would be very glad to hear them - might stop me feeling like such an idiot!!
