Car not accelerating

Hello,

I’m posting as I’m hoping for some foresight into how much my car repair is going to cost. It’s booked In for tomorrow.

It’s a Skoda, only 4 years old / 15k miles.

In the past few weeks it hasn’t been accelerating properly. I’ve had to floor it to accelerate. I’ve not noticed any difference between gears with this issue. But 0-70 mph would be slow. Noted that RPM isn’t increasing (much) when flooring accelerator pedal.

My (usually dramatic) family member said it could be the clutch. Whilst I know this could be true, I read online RPM would increase a lot and still fail to accelerate if the clutch. The car is also only on 15k miles and 4 years old.

If anyone has experienced similar, and could tell me what the issue was and how expensive to fix I’d be very grateful. 2K+ for a new clutch is weighing heavily.
Thanks

Thanks everyone

I had to reschedule it for today due to a last minute work reschedule (for myself). Should find out soon.

@MargaretThursday I haven’t done this 🤣 and wouldn’t actually know how to. It got serviced in October so thought that would last. Will find out

If you don’t know how to check the oil level you shouldn’t be driving a car. It should be part of your weekly checks. It’s a question you can potentially be asked on a driving test and you will fail if you don’t know the answer.

My old car used to go into limp mode but there were always warning lights and I wouldnt have been able to go above 30mph.

@Shade17 I’ve now learnt, I’m sure you know every answer to every potential question they can ask you on the driving test and theory test 👍🏻

It wasn’t the oil level, it took me two seconds of googling to find out how to do it after I told myself I shouldn’t be driving a car as PP decided to point out so helpfully

Is it a turbo? Mine had exactly the same problem, and it turned out the turbo hose had come unattached. Called the AA out and he fixed it in about 5 minutes. Hopefully it's not your clutch!

Sorry I'd read all your replies but missed the one where you said it's not a turbo

I had this and it just needed the air filter changed.

After many hours of tests and checks and road tests there’s nothing they can find wrong with it, in a few months if it persists I’ll get my trusted family mechanic (down south - 4 hour drive) to look at it but who knows

Presumably they've reset it and it's running fine? I go back to one option in my first answer then and it was just to software having a moment.
