Bedtime

I've got three young children that all go to bed at the same time and I'm just wondering what sort of time others the same age go?
They are between 3 and 7 and tend to be asleep or almost asleep at 730
My friends kids the same age are all in bed at 530
That seems early to me but now I'm wondering if mine are too late 🤔
Usually all awake about 7

530 seems really early, we are usually only doing dinner at that time. Mine will go to bed anywhere from 630 (if a long day with an early start) to 730 (staying up for a treat and if there’s been a stealth car nap too late in the day).

5.30 is ridiculous, do they not want to spend time with their children? I don't even finish work until 5.30 so by the time I've picked my four year old up, gotten home and had dinner it's way past 7.

He's usually in bed around 8/8.30 sometimes earlier if he's really tired.

That seems totally normal! 5.30 is very early, DD would be up at the crack of dawn! She's 3 and usually asleep between 7-7.30, but occasionally later if we have special plans or are particularly disorganised!

Sux2buthen · 02/04/2022 19:34

😂@Caramelcap that is what I initially thought but then I felt a bit judgmental and started doubting my kids bedtimes.
Ok that's all good then, I like to check in with other parents sometimes to make sure I'm not wildly off track!

Re 5.30 so I wouldn't say it's too early as it obviously works for them. If 7.30 works for you no need to change it.

When S1 was little we took him to bed when he seemed to be needing it. After a few weeks we realised that it was usually around 7:40pm, so that became his bedtime for a couple of years!

Our normal dinnertime has always been 6-6:30 so the children's routines fitted round that.

I reckon if your children are waking up naturally and happily at a decent time that works for your mornings then you have a good bedtime.

Maybe your friends' children spend time playing or watching tv once they're in bed? Or maybe they need to have an early start? Or just turn into monsters if they have less than 14 hours sleep...

5.30! That's bonkers. My daughter is 2 and it's about 7.45-8pm.

Ostryga · 02/04/2022 19:51

5:30?! We’ve only just recovered from the school run and had a snack and a sit down by then 😂

Dd goes to bed at 7/7:30 (she’s 5) and would stage a revolt if I tried to put her to bed at 5:30.

Although saying that her kids must need a lot of sleep if they’re waking at 7. Dd is up at 6 (5 now thanks BST!) whatever dang time she goes to bed.

My 6 year old goes to bed around 6.30 ( sometimes a bit later depending how long dinner takes) as she's tired then. 9 year old between 7.30 and 8.30 but if earlier he reads for a bit after he's gone up.

Thanks, for us 7 is a good time to get moving in the morning so it must be about right at night for now.
