Anyone sold a *really* old iphone?

I’ve been doing some tidying and found a few really old iPhones (think iphone 3) and an old ipad (may be the original version, it has the old-fashioned wide plug), and was wondering how to get rid of them. A quick google suggests you can’t seem anything older than an iPhone 6, but that seems odd as surely they can recycle them and get the raw materials back.

At worst, I’d like to recycle them, but ideally I’d like a bit of money to cover the postage and the hassle. Has anyone found a good way of doing this?

Check on eBay at the price of sold iPhones and then maybe sell it in there.

There is always someone who will buy it.

I have an old iPhone 4 somewhere. Totally useless now and I HATED it so much I've never had another Apple phone or device since. Next time I come across it, I'm going to smash it into a million pieces and bin it. That's all Apple phones are good for in my opinion! I realise this doesn't answer your question in the slightest (sorry!) but hopefully somebody will come along with a more helpful response about recycling components!

I just wanted to rant about how much I despise Apple devices!

The Royal Mint can recycle parts or look to see if any charities or aid agencies can re use them

Usingit · 02/04/2022 14:08

Do you live near an Apple shop, maybe pop in there with them

What an utter waste. It could be recycled.
Beamur · 02/04/2022 14:09

Apple will accept them for recycling I think?

So do you want to make the OP an offer for her iPhone 3 or not? Only it’s not very clear from your post. 😁😁

Not even worth sticking on eBay 😂 they’ve sold for 99p

I was hoping for a reputable website where I could package them all up and get them recycled for a bit of money. But it sounds like I need to find the nearest Apple store. But according to their website, they’ll give me credit not cash, and since I don’t buy new phones that’s not really any use to me.

I haven't used it for ages but in the past I've sent them to a company called Envirofone, they sent Argos vouchers in return, depending on value.

People sell older models on ebay, sometimes they can be repaired,

You can put a reserve on the price or set the listing higher, as from experience in buying magic cards, one week x card can sell at £1 then another week same card and it's £20 etc, all depends
Hawkins001 · 02/04/2022 14:27

*magic The gathering cards

Wbeezer · 02/04/2022 14:34

Ha, DH had only recently ditched his iPhone4, he refused to replace it until it barely functioned!

Ululavit · 02/04/2022 16:20

I can’t be bothered with eBay, too many scammers. If all else fails, I will take them to the Apple store next time I’m near one, to make sure they’re properly recycled. More googling suggests anything older than an iPhone 6 isn’t worth anything to the ‘we buy your old phone’ websites.
