Locksmiths... can they gain access without ID/proof of address?

I'm in a nightmare. My dad is in an induced coma after cardiac arrest yesterday and its not looking good. I live 100 miles away and only saw him yesterday. I have his bag of belongings from the hospital but his house keys aren't in there and not on the inventory hospital did (he was taken In ambulance from home two days ago). I'm going to drive to his house today and see if the door is open. If its open and I find his keys inside all is OK but what if its open and I can't find keys to lock it again? or what if its locked up? Will a locksmith change his locks for me or not because it's not my property? I've got my dads wallet but no photo ID.

I've tried local 24hr lock smiths but none answering phone yet.

I had to have a locksmith when I lost my keys and the other day my son had to get a locksmith to let him in as he'd forgotten his. Neither time did either of us have to show any ID. It's really worrying!

Before travelling there could you phone a locksmith and ask them?

Thank you!!! I'm only a few miles away from his house now but I will phone them again in an hour or so to check.

I just haven't slept and my mind is going a million miles an hour. I'm scared incase someone has gotten in or something.

I have been locked out and the locksmith didn't as for ID. I had to go inside to get my card to pay him. I think most people locked out wouldn't have ID.

Hope you get it sorted must be very difficult time for you.

When I locked myself out (without any ID on me) the emergency locksmith opened the door and I then had to show him my ID and a utility bill from within the house. When you get hold of a locksmith explain the situation and see what they say.

Is it possible he leaves a spare key with s neighbour?

musicalfrog · 02/04/2022 08:38

Ask around his neighbours, they may well have a spare.
