Sunny garden - shade solutions

We have a south west facing garden with no trees that gets sun from about 10am in summer until 7pm. It is our first house after renting flats and when we bought it I was happy we’d have a sunny garden. A few years on I am a bit sick of it - we have a young child and in the summer on nice days it is just too hot and I’m always worried about suncream etc. Last year we got a 3m cantilever parasol that helps a bit, but a) it hard to move so only quite a small bit of shade depending on where the sun is, and b) if it’s windy it’s no good. Can anyone suggest better solutions to give more shade that don’t cost the earth? I don’t think an awning would work because of the direction of the sun - unless it was right overhead all the shade will be on the house wall. Any ideas??
